The Saints, Chargers may sign undrafted free agent, Isaiah Williams this season after this year’s NFL trade deadline. According to reports, the Lions are releasing Williams in favor of Jameson Williams to no surprise coming off a two-game suspension. Detroit has plenty of talent to be an NFC heavyweight again this year after losing to the 49ers in the championship game last season. They don’t need Isaiah anymore since they have veterans ready to hoist their first Super Bowl for the organization, but it shouldn’t surprise anyone if they bring him back on the practice squad.
However, Isaiah was impressive this past preseason and the training camp but there’s no room in their receiving room. Jared Goff has too many wideouts to work with like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Tim Patrick and Allen Robinson. Originally an undrafted draft pick, Isaiah was hoping to establish himself as a clear-cut receiver. Still, he probably won’t succeed in a group already built, recording just six yards on two catches. As much as the Lions might want to bring him back, many teams want to stack as many weapons to build their offense.
However, injuries have been hurting his stint so he may have to work harder to make a starting team. Other rosters may still look into what he could provide. The NFL trade deadline may be over but the free agent market is still open all season for any team to make a quick signing. The Saints, Chargers could take a chance on Isaiah to see what he could do in rotation.

Back to the Basics
The chances of a rebuild for the New Orleans Saints are high after having a disastrous 2024 campaign. The season isn’t over yet but by firing Dennis Allen and losing Chris Olave along with Rashid Shaheed, the Saints will be looking to tank this year. Everything was going well for the first two games of the season but inconsistency issues later came with injuries that stopped them from being a legitimate contender. Derek Carr didn’t play a couple of games but upon his return, the Saints still struggled to get anything going.
Rookie Spencer Rattler might be their next quarterback moving forward as if they don’t plan to bring back Carr. However, the veteran doesn’t have the right supporting cast on his side so they may give him one more shot in 2025. Whatever happens, the Saints need more weapons to help them achieve what they always wanted since the Drew Brees era. Williams won’t completely restructure this offense but having someone like Olave teasing he’s heading elsewhere leaves Shaheed, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and an unproven Bub Means as the next man doesn’t sound ideal.
More Weapons for Herbert
Jim Harbaugh can talk about the run game all he wants to build a legitimate ground game for Justin Herbert. However, they won’t ever see his full potential if they focus on the backfield unit. J.K. Dobbins is thriving so they might as well focus on improving the passing attack for Herbert which they knew was a weakness coming into this season. The Chargers are a solid wild-card team that could make a lot of noise if they can add one more receiver for depth.
Someone like Isaiah Williams is no superstar or proven but it’s better than having DJ Chark who hasn’t done anything special yet. Quentin Johnston is still looking like his 2023 self while rookie Ladd McConkey and Joshua Palmer are holding the ship together. Williams won’t catch consistent balls but he could make a few momentum plays to get something going for this offense.
