The Saints or Panthers could trade for former first-round pick wide receiver, Treylon Burks this season. It seems more likely the Titans will move on Burks after the team loses another game but they have a tough stretch, including against the Bills and Lions. One report still has Burks moving on to another roster despite DeAndre Hopkins being the most obvious trade candidate. However, they could keep Hopkins if they don’t like what other teams are offering them and trade Burks for some decent draft capital.
If the Titans want Will Levis to make any significant progress, then that would only happen if Hopkins stays. This makes Burks expendable since he hasn’t found his footing in this 2024 campaign. Originally selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, the young receiver couldn’t establish himself in Tennessee’s offense after missing 12 games the past two seasons. Burks had his moments with the team after logging seven catches for 111 yards in one matchup this year.
However, he couldn’t live up to expectations after the team hoped he would step up after trading A.J. Brown to Philadelphia. The Titans are more likely to tank this entire season, so it’s easier to trade him to a winning team or wherever he desires. Burks probably won’t bring much value in return for Tennessee, but he’s easily a player who could establish himself elsewhere looking to keep building their wideout corps. The Saints and Panthers need an immediate wideout and they’re hoping Treylon Burks can translate fast into their scheme.
Needy Saints, Panthers Could Trade For Former First-Round Pick Treylon Burks
Saints Need New Life
It’s fair to say this team is going to need more than help, but rather a new life. The Saints are moving forward without Derek Carr, Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. This is bad news for the roster all around, especially for Dennis Allen who is hoping to keep his job. However, they shouldn’t panic too much since they’re still 4-2 so they have a couple of games they can work through before they want to click the tanking button.
Some had Davante Adams heading to New Orleans but that was before Carr’s injury. It now wouldn’t make sense if he went there and Carr wasn’t available. Adding someone like Treylon Burks would be a solid emergency option since releasing A.T. Perry before all of the injury mishaps now may make them panic. It doesn’t help that rookie Spencer Rattler has to start since he’s still learning and growing through growing pains, but a Burks trade could be a fine consolation prize to keep the team afloat.
Better Luck Next Time
The Panthers walked into this season hoping they had the right pieces for Bryce Young. However, they went on a losing streak and now sit at 1-5 with Young on the bench. It’s easier to tank this year rather than risk any other injuries to happen. Even though they won’t do this, they should look forward to next season since this was probably a “trial and error” type of year.
Carolina was anticipating Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen could last for a couple of years. It hasn’t been a full season and there are rumors already that they could put both on the trading block. However, the Panthers were quick to cut Terrace Marshall so this leaves rookie Xavier Legette and a few reserve players alone. Burks hasn’t shown his true potential but if the Panthers get their act together, he could thrive in a new system for 2025.
