The Ravens or Chiefs may trade for Panthers wide receiver, Jonathan Mingo this season. Carolina’s season continues to crash and burn as they lost Derrick Brown and Shaq Thompson in one season. While that may be on the defense, the team’s offense is getting any better since benching Bryce Young in favor of Andy Dalton. It’s fair to say this Panthers 2024 campaign is over since Dalton isn’t on the same elite level as other quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes.
Somehow, they’re still performing fairly well despite a few inconsistent issues at the beginning of the season. It’s a disastrous season for Carolina so it might be safe to become sellers this year to improve their roster for 2025. The Panthers were hoping Mingo would have a better season this year after having a disastrous rookie campaign. However, the Ole Miss product only has 11 receptions on 120 yards despite the Panthers losing Adam Thielen again to injury.
Carolina was expecting more from him, especially after letting D.J. Moore head to Chicago and bringing in Diontae Johnson this season to give Young a legitimate supporting cast. Mingo might not carve out a role anymore on this offense even though he’s the team’s WR3 behind Johnson and rookie Xavier Legette. Last season, Mingo notched 43 receptions for 418 yards but no touchdowns on 85 targets.
No one should expect him to be a playmaker for a tanking team that is already 1-4 this year. The Panthers selected him in the 39th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft and he could’ve been a reliable outside target for the offense. Instead, they may put him on the trading block to see if the Panthers can build some draft capital. The Ravens and Chiefs could bring out the best in Jonathon Mingo.

Extra Juice for Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes is probably having one of the worst seasons in recent memory. To no fault of his own, he no longer has Rashee Rice or Marquise Brown who the Chiefs hoped they could replace while releasing Kadarius Toney and Marquez Valdes-Scantling this past offseason. Travis Kelce is aging and doesn’t look like he’ll have anything to offer, he may still have three more years in him before he eventually retires. This leaves rookie Xavier Worthy and two struggling wide receivers, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Skyy Moore.
However, they brought back Mecole Hardman before the season began but he hasn’t been himself. The Chiefs should roll the dice on someone like Mingo to get him in the mix to help Worthy. Mingo is still young and he wouldn’t have to play full-time to turn this team into a ferocious offense again.
Rebuilding Depth
Zay Flowers is easily the only superstar deep threat they have for Lamar Jackson. Rashod Bateman is only doing much less of an average receiver, he still had one of the worst seasons last year. This is why Jackson is relying on running back Justice Hill for quick passes or dump-offs. Nelson Agholor will probably become another journeyman but the Ravens should kick the tires on Mingo.
The Ole Miss product may not be like a modern-day CeeDee Lamb but they could use him in the rotation. He doesn’t need a full-time role to get his shine but enough to get some yardage to bring his talent out. Mingo probably isn’t the fastest among Flowers but he could be useful depth as rookie DeVontez Walker is still learning.
