Saints, Panthers May Trade For 8,000-Yard Receiver

The Saints or Panthers may trade for 8,000-yard wide receiver, Robert Woods after not getting enough playing time in Houston.

The Saints or Panthers may trade for 8,000-yard receiver, Robert Woods this upcoming trade deadline. Bleacher Report published an article in which they had Woods climbing the trade board ranks, and Houston could put him on the trading block. Woods is becoming an afterthought on the Texans’ offense since Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins and Tank Dell are excelling when healthy. Houston may continue to get younger and while they may not deal with Woods anytime soon, they could if they don’t find a spot for him.

However, he continues to be unproductive whenever he gets the opportunity after playing 72% of snaps against the Jaguars in week 3, notching one reception for 10 yards. Woods may be getting some opportunities as a punt returner but he’s better off playing for an offense that needs a receiver. The Texans initially brought him in hoping he could carve out a role for C.J. Stroud’s offense but if they don’t see a future with Woods, they should trade him.

Houston probably won’t be a seller this upcoming trade deadline so they want to keep all of their talent since they’re first in their division and the offense is thriving. The Texans will only move him if it’s for the right price and the Panthers and Saints could provide that for Woods.

More Weapons for Derek Carr

The Saints are still looking for their third man behind Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. New Orleans was hoping that A.T. Perry would make an impact and stay healthy, later shockingly releasing him. It makes it obvious that the team will become buyers near the trade deadline if they’re close ahead of playoff contention. Woods is way past his prime but he could find himself again in New Orleans.

The Texans aren’t utilizing him as much as they want and Saints need a new receiver. Woods doesn’t need to be at his best but enough for Derek Carr to find him in the slot. The veteran could help create separation to make life easier for Shaheed and Olave to focus on the deep threat. Carr already has one of the worst offensive lines and his job is on the line, so Woods’ presence could help him make quick passes easier.

Help for Andy Dalton

The Panthers probably don’t have to completely tank their season. However, they need more weapons to build on since they’re looking beyond 2024. After losing Adam Thielen, they don’t have anyone who could get open to grab those quick slot passes. Diontae Johnson is not coming back next year so they should probably trade for a couple of veterans.

Andy Dalton may be just a bridge quarterback but Dave Canales probably wants to end the season on a high note. Life is already hard on defense after losing Derrick Brown and Shaq Thompson to season-ending injuries. After their blowout loss in Chicago, it proves that Dalton needs more weapons to give him a legitimate shot as a starter in Thielen’s absence.
