6-Time Pro Bowler The Missing Piece For The Saints Offense

Could Davante Adams be the final piece the Saints need for a Super Bowl run? Explore how the star receiver could elevate the Saints' offense.
Davante Adams

The Raiders are looking to move former All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, who will generate a ton of buzz across the league.

Davante Adam Might be the Missing Piece For The Saints Offense

The New Orleans Saints find themselves in a tough spot after dropping two consecutive games. They are also battling many offensive injuries, including Erik McCoy, Taysom Hill, and Alvin Kamara. The team’s once-promising start is now in jeopardy after losing to the Eagles and Falcons in heartbreaking fashion. With the offense struggling to find consistency, the Saints may need a true game-changer to reignite their season. Enter Davante Adams. The elite wide receiver is the missing piece to stabilize the offense and lead New Orleans back into serious playoff contention.

The Contract

According to Adam Schefter, the Raiders are looking for at least a 2nd round pick for the disgruntled playmaker. Besides the trade compensation needed, his contract is another major hurdle in a potential Adams trade. The Raiders made a deal for Davante Adams in March of 2022, trading a first and second-round pick to the Green Bay Packers and signing the star to a five-year $140,000,000 with $65,670,000 guaranteed. Adams brings over a $25,350,000 cap hit, while the Saints only have $4,573,865 in cap space. The Saints have a long history of working contracts with different restructures to fit under the cap. Two ways the Saints could make this deal happen would be an Alvin Kamara extension or working with the Raiders to pay most of his salary for the remainder of the season.

College Quarterback

The Saints offer several enticing pieces that rank high on Davante Adams’ wish list. One major piece includes his former college quarterback, Derek Carr. One of the big reasons Adams requested a trade to the Raiders from Green Bay was to reunite with Carr. At the time, Carr was playing at a high level before Adams arrived but was benched for the final two games to avoid injury. The Raiders released Carr in February 2023 before signing with New Orleans in March 2023. On the Rich Eisen Show, Adams stated, “I mean, I came here to play with Derek. I can’t say I would have been here if he wasn’t here.” The Saints are in significant need of another offensive playmaker who can consistently get open and make contested catches. Adams is still playing at an elite level and would elevate the entire wide receiver group.

Wide Receiver Coach

Another big piece to the Davante Adams trade puzzle is Saints wide receiver coach Keith Williams. Adams has a very close relationship with coach Williams, who has worked with Adams as his personal wide receiver coach. Adams has listed the Saints as one of his preferred destinations, with the personal ties and a few Saints-Raider connections, a deal makes sense. New Orleans hired former Raiders General Manager Dave Ziegler to an executive position within the front office. All of the different connections and a serious need in New Orleans align with a real possibility for Adams becoming a Saint. New Orleans must balance the need for an instant aging playmaker with their focus on adding youth and talent to the aging roster.
