Andrei Iosivas Continues to Carve Out Role in Cincinnati Bengals Offense

With the Bengals falling to 0-3 on the season, wide receiver Andrei Iosivas continues to make his mark on Cincinnati's offense.

The Cincinnati Bengals fell into the dreaded 0-3 hole after losing to the Washington Commanders on MNF. Defensively, the orange and black were shredded in every aspect as rookie Jayden Daniels torched them going 21/23 and throwing for 254 yards with two touchdowns and rushing for one more. He was impressive and the coaching staff for Washington deserves plenty of kudos for giving him an excellent game plan to execute. His counterpart, Joe Burrow was also great and did his best to will the Bengals to victory with his second consistent performance, passing for 324 yards and three touchdowns. The player who continues to impress each week is wide receiver Andrei Iosivas who had another steady performance with 52 receiving yards for an average of 10.4 yards per reception and a critical fourth-down touchdown catch. Let’s examine the sophomore closer.

Andrei Iosivas Continues to Carve Out Role in Bengals Offense

Three Is the Magic Number

When Tyler Boyd departed in free agency the Bengals were looking to fill the WR3 role. In OTAs and training camp, they often lined Iosivas in the slot but would also give him a chance outside so he could develop a more well-rounded route tree. This has paid dividends through three games as Iosivas has proven he can win from both spots and this has led to Burrow trusting Iovias even more in 2024 as his opportunities should continue to climb.

Touchdown Machine

The biggest area that Iosivas makes a difference is in the red zone where he’s a touchdown machine. He already has three on the young season and executed a great route to get the Bengals back in the game against the Commanders.

The body control and catch radius Iosivas exhibits are reminiscent of the Bengals’ other stud receiver Tee Higgins. They both have a similar frame and make the most of it when attacking the ball, adding another weapon for Burrow to utilize in critical moments.

Next Steps

With Cincinnati’s defense reeling, the offense can’t settle for field goals and must score touchdowns to get back on track.  Head coach Zac Taylor understands this as he stated after the loss on Monday, “We have to create our own opportunities. When you lose three one-score games, no one is going to give you anything. Again, there’s no gift we’re expecting to receive. We have to go take it. We haven’t done enough really dictating the tempo of the game, collectively — offense, defense, special teams. There hasn’t been one unit that’s really dominated to take the pressure off the other unit, so this falls on everybody. It’s frustrating.”

Iosivas will be a big part of the Bengals’ offense moving forward and a player they will need to step up in winning one-on-one matchups. If he can continue to take the next steps to develop into a top WR3, the men in stripes will still have an opportunity to turn their season around and get back into contention in the uber-tough AFC North. The clock is ticking.
