The Ravens and Saints may be favorites to sign 1,800-yard free agent CJ Uzomah to boost their receiving depth chart. According to a report, many are betting Raiders’ tight end Harrison Bryant to be a top trade target since he isn’t getting many reps. However, many rosters should not overlook Uzomah, who is still among the top 100 free agents. Uzomah started his career with the Bengals but couldn’t find a role in Philadelphia despite signing a one-year contract with them.
He will find work elsewhere while Dallas Goedert is their man to take over. Uzomah is still a reliable weapon in this league so it’s surprising that’s available. It shouldn’t be long before needy teams eventually call for his services. At this point, he probably isn’t looking for a huge deal from teams but one where he could a couple of touches.
He could be a crucial piece of the offensive line as a run or pass blocker so teams may consider. However, the Saints could be the team that Uzomah needs but more so what New Orleans is looking for. Juwan Johnson is a strong rookie but there’s plenty of reason why he could flourish for the Saints. The only receivers that Derek Carr has are Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed so they need all the help they can get.
After losing to the Eagles, Carr needs an extra security blanket behind one of the worst offensive lines and one more target to throw to. The Ravens could look to add an extra tight end even though they have two strong ones in Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews. However, Andrews could be expendable this season if Likely continues to outshine him. Uzomah could fit a role where he could win a ring as a backup.

Other Potential Destinations
Carolina Panthers
Carolina could use some weapons since the Bryce Young experiment may be over. They’re betting on Andy Dalton to lead this new regime but no one should expect him to be the long-term starter. The Panthers haven’t seen anything special from rookie Ja’Tavion Sanders but someone like Uzomah could boost this receiving corps. Any help for the passing attack would be viable for the Panthers since Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen.
Uzomah won’t change the entire passing game but he could be a safe target to throw quick passes to. Rookie Xavier Legette probably won’t get many looks this season so Dalton’s new man may be Uzomah who could change the momentum of the Carolina offense.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers may have to heavily depend on the running game for the rest of the year since Justin Herbert is dealing with an injury. Los Angeles has a strong offensive line after draft Joe Alt which should give additional pass protection and run blocks. However, someone like Uzomah could carve out a role while Will Dissly and Hayden Hurst are battling it out. Nobody loves the run game more than Jim Harbaugh so his ability to help block as a tight end with his size could fit in the old-school style that he’s looking for.
Dallas Cowboys
Jake Ferguson is finally returning and looking to revive the passing game for Dallas. After trading Peyton Hendershot, the Cowboys’ tight end depth chart looks troubling. Luke Schoonmaker has seen a few flashes this season but coming off a disappointing rookie year, he hasn’t been explosive. Uzomah may not be the same player anymore but if he gets the chance, he could still be reliable. The running game has been disastrous for Dallas so maybe Uzomah’s addition could open it up with his run blocking.
