Dak Prescott had one of the best seasons of his career last year after a lackluster 2022 season. With some confidence restored, what should be expected of Prescott this year for fantasy purposes?

Fantasy Football Draft Guide

2023 in Review

Prescott finished the 2023 season as the QB3 for total points with 351.8 and as the QB5 with 20.7 points per game. Either way you slice it, last year was one to remember for the Cowboys playcaller. He started off slow by having two games in the first five weeks where he produced less than 10 fantasy points, but he turned a corner in Week 6 and never looked back.

He threw for over 4,500 yards which was the second-highest total of his career. Prescott finished just about 375 yards short of his personal-best, but a whopping 1,750 of those yards went to CeeDee Lamb. He threw 36 touchdowns and just nine interceptions, a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 4:1. It’s going to take a special skill for Prescott or any quarterback to top that number.

2024 Projection

The Cowboys didn’t have a major shake up in the pass-catcher department, so Prescott still has his main targets of Lamb, Brandin Cooks and Jake Ferguson. That trio helped him be quite successful last year, and Dallas coaches are running it back. Things should look much of the same for Prescott aside from working on getting the ball out quicker.

Prescott still doesn’t have much of a run game in the backfield with him. The team is relying on Ezekiel Elliott to play like it’s 2018 and be supplemented with some Rico Dowdle. Dallas did what they could last year with Tony Pollard who was a disappointment, and don’t be surprised to see Prescott compensate for it again this year.

One other thing this year is the Prescott and the Cowboys are going to have to get creative with trying to replicate his passing numbers. While Lamb will have an incredible season, the likelihood of him having back-to-back seasons with 1,700+ yards is slim. That means Cooks and Ferguson are going to have to step up.

Dak Prescott Fantasy Football ADP

FantasyPros has Prescott’s ADP listed at 78 with a range of 34-90. The only way Prescott should be going in the third or fourth round is it’s a superflex league. Taking him at that spot in a one-QB league is just wasteful and prevents you from drafting talent at wide receiver, running back or even tight end.

Prescott is also listed as the QB9 this year on FantasyPros ahead of Jordan Love and Jayden Daniels. That’s not a slight towards Love and Daniels, Prescott is just that good. The writing is on the wall for him to finish as a Top 7-8 QB again this season. He may not be Top 5 like he was a year ago, but he should still be able to finish among the league’s best for fantasy.

If Prescott is there at 78, grab him and feel comfortable with your quarterback going into 2024. If it would make you feel better to have some security, wait a round and then grab Daniels in Round 9 if he’s still there.
