The Baltimore Ravens or Kansas City Chiefs may trade for Chargers cut candidate running back, Isaiah Spiller before the coming regular season. According to a report, Bleacher Report put together a list of one player from each roster and one of those names is Spiller who the Chargers could put on the trade block as the preseason is ongoing. Spiller was a day-three pick from the 2022 draft class, where had a lot of promise after notching over 1,000 yards consistently in the SEC multiple times. However, his time in Los Angeles has been lackluster despite being in a shallow running back room behind Austin Ekeler.

The Chargers have a new regime with Jim Harbaugh coming in and they have three running backs ahead of him who are J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards and Joshua Kelley. Spiller never got the chance to get significant playing time and he probably never will but the Chargers could put him on the trading block to get something in return. However, he’s still fairly young and can join any roster that needs depth at the position since he could provide some upside for a team. Teams are always looking for running backs with a fresh pair of legs and that’s what he should be able to provide once he’s available.

The Ravens are looking for a hungry running back who can help Derrick Henry since Keaton Mitchell is dealing with injuries. However, they haven’t found any reliability but someone like Spiller can immediately boost the room and help him get comfortable since he’ll take most of the snaps. The Chiefs may be in trouble even though they have Isiah Pacheco but Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been dealing with mental health issues so they should get an extra playmaker in case.

Other Potential Trade Fits

New Orleans Saints

It’s looking like it’s Derek Carr and Chris Olave in the passing game that’s going to be in a lot of trouble against defenses. The only way they have a legitimate chance of moving this offense is with the running game. Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams are two solid backfield runners so if they want to add another one for the passing game then they could. Kamara is still a good player that can catch those quick slant plays and Spiller could join the room to be a solid weapon for passes.

This could lead Williams to carry some of the load with the running game to give Kamara some breathing room. Williams may be on the trade block as well so Spiller might be a solid replacement since he is still young.

Carolina Panthers

Bryce Young and the offense have a lot to forward to this year but the running back room might still need one more weapon. Rashaad Penny is retiring so that leaves Chuba Hubbard, Jonathon Brooks and Miles Sanders. However, they might need a new running back that’s younger since they may trade Sanders if he doesn’t improve. Young has the right weapons in the passing game but the running attack might be an issue if one injury occurs which could lead to disaster.

Brooks isn’t ready to take on a heavy workload but someone like Spiller who hasn’t been getting a chance, might benefit from being in Carolina’s offense.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys need all the help they can get even though Ezekiel Elliott is coming back. Spiller is probably the best trade candidate that could come as a good cost-effective option. Royce Freeman probably won’t make the roster which would leave someone like Rico Dowdle to back up Elliott but he hasn’t done anything explosive. Trouble may occur if Elliott suffers an injury so they might as well add Spiller while he’s still fresh and in his rookie contract.
