Ravens, Saints May Sign Best Available Quarterback

Here is how the Baltimore Ravens or New Orleans Saints may sign best available quarterback, Ryan Tannehill.

The Baltimore Ravens or New Orleans Saints may sign the best available quarterback, Ryan Tannehill from free agency before this upcoming regular season. According to a report, one source believes the veteran could find a new home soon since rosters may need help at the quarterback position after seeing some play this preseason and injuries occurring. This is why Bleacher Report writer Alex Kay believes that Tannehill is the real winner of this NFL Training Camp even though he isn’t on a team. Tannehill may be getting older but his insurance policy and experience could be useful for any roster to feel comfortable in case any starting passer goes down.

The 2019 Pro Bowler has been the most available over the past two seasons after losing his spot to quarterback Will Levis following his promising 2023 campaign. Tannehill may not be in his prime anymore but he’s knowledgeable enough to lead a team if they need a quarterback who can move the sticks and be a leader. He led the Titans to three straight playoff berths despite losing his starting position but he may still have that same mentality for any roster that wants to win. This could change the landscape for the Saints if they don’t feel Derek Carr can handle the hot seat if he underperforms.

Spencer Rattler is a promising rookie who is already impressive but the league saw what happened to Bryce Young last year, he wasn’t ready but with a veteran like Tannehill, it doesn’t matter what weapons he has. However, Lamar Jackson needs more stability behind him since someone like Josh Johnson has been underperforming every time he steps on the field. Tannehill’s addition should add some cushion especially since Jackson does have a history of injuries.

Other Potential Destinations

Los Angeles Chargers

Even though the Chargers expect Justin Herbert to be ready for week one, he did deal with a plantar fascia injury. Los Angeles doesn’t seem to be worrying now since it’s preseason but injuries like that could probably come back or turn into something worse. Herbert may be playing through pain this year and things like that sometimes could make him stay in the pocket for too long and one huge hit could cause chaos. Easton Stick isn’t the type of backup that the Chargers should probably rely on if they want to still win football games if they lose Herbert.

Tannehill signing with the Chargers should give Jim Harbaugh some oxygen to survive without having to dig into another quarterback at the last minute.

Carolina Panthers

Bryce Young has a strong bright future in Carolina, especially with the new head coach Dave Canales, and the new regime that’s starting. However, Young had one of the worst rookie seasons that anyone could remember from last year. This doesn’t go to stay it may repeat but if the Panthers don’t see any improvement even though they have a supporting cast for him, they could turn to a temporary replacement. This means someone like Tannehill could lead the team to a few playoffs for the experience before he retires.

It could make wideouts like Xavier Legette stronger since he’s entering his first year in the league.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys have a lot of questions at the quarterback position since the team has been stalling to give Dak Prescott a contract extension. Even though they might be signing Prescott to a mega deal, it doesn’t mean there’s a chance he’ll improve his play. Dallas is looking for someone that can at least take them to the championship round so if Prescott gets another injury then Tannehill should be brought in for insurance while they look for their long-term starter.
