Following an impressive showing against the Cincinnati Bengals during the Chicago Bears’ second preseason, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill took notice and compared Bears’ quarterback Caleb Williams to Patrick Mahomes, saying, “Caleb Williams so nice he reminds me of…….” Even if Hill’s current quarterback is Tua Tagovailoa, it’s easy to assume he’s making the comparison to Mahomes. Although it’s still the preseason, Williams made several jaw-dropping plays that caught the attention of the NFL community.

Caleb Williams Continues to Deliver Jaw-Dropping Plays
After an abysmal start and several three-and-outs for the Bears offense, Caleb Williams started to showcase why he was the No. 1 overall pick. It began with the throw of the game, which was a 45-yard beauty of a throw, hitting fellow first-round draft pick Rome Odunze in stride while on the run.
That's just beautiful 🥹

What followed was another excellent play from Williams, finding Odunze in the back of the endzone, but unfortunately, it ended in a incompletion. Regardless, it was a pin-perfect throw that should have ended in a touchdown if Odunze kept his feet in bounds.
This should've been a TD. Caleb Williams ability to create and keep his eyes down field is truly elite pic.twitter.com/556JupKCjy

The last play was a Justin Fields-esque play, with Williams using a combination of awareness and athleticism to run in for his first NFL touchdown.
Caleb. Williams.

The Hidden Significance in Tyreek Hill’s Comparison
Tyreek Hill, once Patrick Mahomes’ go-to target in Kansas City, added to the many comparisons between Caleb Williams and Patrick Mahomes. Besides the laser throws and high-IQ plays by Williams, there’s an added meaning when the number one player in the NFL’s top 100 list takes notice and makes a comparison to the best quarterback in the NFL. So far this preseason, Williams has balled out and put on a show, whether it’s facing the Bills’ first-team defense or the Bengals’ second-team unit. For a player of Hill’s stature, who’s played with Patrick Mahomes, comparing a rookie quarterback to Mahomes shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Replicating Hill & Mahomes Success In Chicago
Hill’s time with Mahomes and the Chiefs was nothing short of explosive plays. The two were among the most electric duos in the league, with Hill amassing 4,638 yards, earning four Pro Bowls and two All-Pro selections with a Super Bowl victory.
The Bears hope to replicate that type of success with a jam-packed wide receiver room filled with talent. Guys like D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, and Rome Odunze are set to provide Williams with options all over the field. While matching the Chiefs’ success is a lofty goal, the Bears’ offensive talent makes it seem achievable. If Williams performs anywhere near Mahomes’ level, he’ll quickly rise among some of the best NFL quarterbacks. For the Bears, that’s something the franchise has never seen before.
Williams is already exuding the same aura Mahomes brings to the field—the sense that “a play is never over with Mahomes at quarterback.” Although he will undoubtedly make mistakes throughout the season, being compared to the NFL’s best as a rookie is quite the compliment.
