The Los Angeles Chargers or Carolina Panthers may sign Super Bowl potential cut candidate wide receiver, Marquez Valdes-Scantling this upcoming year. According to a report, the Bills have been shuffling their wide receivers but they may cut ties with one of their recent signees before the year begins. Valdes-Scantling has been having issues in the past of dropping balls and not living up to his potential and he’s doing the same thing with the Bills. Josh Allen possesses one of the strongest arms in the league today next to Patrick Mahomes so it’s surprising that Valdes-Scantling is still struggling.
It was looking like he was a roster lock for the team but there was a clear sign at practice recently that he was dropping passes at practice again. Valdes-Scantling has been fading in the background even though they’re lacking weapons which is a bad sign for him. Since Stefon Diggs‘s departure, the Bills were able to sign Curtis Samuel and Gabe Davis to help with their depth issues including drafting Keon Coleman. It shouldn’t surprise anyone if the Bills decide to move on if Valdes-Scantling continues to be unproductive for their offense.
The top four receivers in Buffalo seem to be Samuel, Coleman, Khalil Shakir and Mack Hollins with Chase Claypool and Valdes-Scantling fighting for a roster spot. The Chargers are still lacking at the wideout position despite signing numerous receivers like DJ Chark and drafting Ladd McConkey. However, it’s nothing comparable to what they had in Mike Williams and Keenan Allen so Valdes-Scantling might be their last resort. The Panthers are looking for a slot receiver to accommodate Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen since Xavier Legette won’t be ready for many reps as he’s still adjusting to the NFL.

Other Potential Trade Fits
New Orleans Saints
The offense looks very adequate for the Saints heading into this year and even with Derek Carr on the hot seat, it’s surprising the team isn’t doing anything to help. Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are a solid temporary duo but no one should expect them to lead this offense very far considering they need to add more weapons for Carr. The Saints should put all their faith in A.T. Perry even though he was showing some promise as a rookie last season. New Orleans has to figure out a way to bring in more receivers to help Carr secure a long-term extension if he’s a serious starting quarterback.
Valdes-Scantling could easily come in a cost-effective deal where he could spend a year to see if his abilities improve. He would come in as a worst-case scenario if the Saints are looking desperate to stack up on weapons.
Kansas City Chiefs
Valdes-Scantling could still return if the Chiefs are down to the last slew of receivers. They have been aggressive this offseason after signing Marquise Brown and trading up to draft Xavier Worthy. The Chiefs could have their next Tyreek Hill in Worthy but they should be able to bring back Valdes-Scantling for one more chance if they decide that Kadarius Toney should switch to running back or get cut. He’ll probably not be good enough to even beat out Mecole Hardman at this rate for a starting job but it gives the team another shot to bring him in at an emergency.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys have a lot of questions at the receiver position, especially since CeeDee Lamb is holding out. Lamb is their best receiver and if he continues not to want to play for the team this season, that would spell bad news. However, they can’t necessarily afford a new weapon but at the same time, they can’t afford to go receiver-less. Brandin Cooks shows some upside but he’s getting older and he’s way past his prime.
However, they can’t rely on Jalen Tolbert who has a lot of potential but lacks the experience. After him, it’s Jalen Brooks and many receivers who haven’t been able to take a snap in the league. Valdes-Scantling is the perfect cheap option to spend at least one million to bring him on a one-year deal.
