$160 million quarterback Dak Prescott is in “positive” contract talks with the Dallas Cowboys but a trade is still possible. According to a report, there’s finally some life in America’s team for many fans are eager to hear if the team will extend Prescott. It’s been a frustrating offseason for the Cowboys as they’re figuring out a way to pay their top stars including CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons in the future. However, the bad news is that Lamb plans to sit out this upcoming training camp as it gets underway next week.

The Athletic’s NFL Inside Dianna Russini is changing the dynamic by reporting the Cowboys “are currently having positive conversations with Dak Prescott’s agent as they working on a deal.” Cowboys VP Stephon Jones claims he and Jerry are speaking directly to the quarterback to negotiate on a new deal.

“And then of course you have Dak whose resume speaks for itself,” Jones told Russini and former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel. “I think he was second in MVP voting last year. Those things just take time when you’re talking about the amount of money involved.”

His words don’t say much other than their optimism. However, it may all come down to who they’re willing to focus on first. It’s going to be a challenge to pay both Lamb and Prescott, especially considering that Lamb is holding out, and is not helping the Cowboys at all. Prescott is focusing on football while his agent is handling his contract situation. However, it may come down to a trade if America’s team doesn’t figure out a way to extend him.

Pick and Choose Scenario

The Cowboys could be in a scenario where it will force them to pick and choose. They’re not helping Prescott’s case in his final year of contract by not signing an additional supporting cast for him on offense. However, it’s probably not that the team doesn’t want to build one for him but they are saving up as much money to give contracts to their players. Prescott has all the leverage this upcoming season and the Cowboys are playing a dangerous game if they’re thinking of letting his contract run out.

According to one report, the team may make a deal that could shock everyone and trade Prescott to the Los Angeles Rams. This could make everyone scratch their heads but it could make sense. Matthew Stafford isn’t getting any younger and Prescott’s presence provides the team with a reset since he has plenty of years ahead of him. Stafford swapping and playing for America’s team could give them the Super Bowl crown before retirement.

Other Potential Trade Fits

New Orleans Saints

If the Saints don’t like what Derek Carr is doing this upcoming season then they could always call for Prescott to help improve their offense. Carr doesn’t have a lot of leverage with the weapons he’s walking with like Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. It seems like the best plan for Dennis Allen to continue building a youthful roster if they plan to bring Prescott if they’re not intrigued by Carr.

Carolina Panthers

Bryce Young doesn’t have an excuse this season since the Panthers have been doing a good job of getting a strong supporting cast. Diontae Johnson, a returning Adam Thielen should give enough power for at least a chance at playoffs. However, if they don’t feel like Young is the right man for the job and want to take a chance on Prescott, they could. Prescott would likely give them a bigger chance at a championship window for the next couple of years.

Los Angeles Chargers

This one may seem very surprising since Justin Herbert isn’t going anywhere. However, he has one of the weakest offenses this upcoming year even though they have a promising Ladd McConkey. DJ Chark, Quentin Johnson and Josh Palmer are not taking this time far which could begin the downfall of Herbert. Prescott’s leadership could come in and bring this team back on their feet if anything happens.
