The Kansas City Chiefs or Baltimore Ravens could land Raiders cut candidate running back, Ameer Abdullah after this training camp. According to a report, the 31-year-old is at risk of a cut after spending the last two seasons with the team. Abdullah hasn’t been doing anything special in the backfield other than holding a pivotal role on special teams while notching 451 scrimmage yards. Bleacher Report says Special Teams is important but he’s going to have to do more to secure a roster spot on the 53-man team.
Zamir White looks to be the starter for this core running group after adding Alexander Mattison and rookie Dylan Laube. Abdullah has some competition now for his spot so it’ll be interesting to what the Raiders will do after seeing his performance since training camp is around the corner. If he only contributes to special teams, he may have a hard time making a roster spot for the Raiders or any team that needs a reliable running back. However, It’d be easier to get Abdullah back on the practice squad for the team but they may just release him and that would grant him the opportunity to explore other teams.
Abdullah faces some serious competition so it’s safe to assume that he could be another running back on the market. The Chiefs are still looking to add a reliable No. 3 behind Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire after letting Jerck McKinnon walk this offseason. It should surprise many that McKinnon isn’t coming back since he was a solid contributor even to special teams. However, Abdullah’s addition could be a solid replacement.
The Ravens may be on a hunt for a new running back since Baltimore is reportedly putting Keaton Mitchell on the PUP list.

Other Potential Fits
Dallas Cowboys
Even after bringing back Ezekiel Elliott to their group, their depth chart still looks weak for a team that wants to go “all in” this upcoming year. Cowboys fans should brace for a slump year this upcoming season after the team has barely been making any moves to improve their roster. The only keystone signing they were able to accomplish in free agency was Eric Kendricks. However, linebacker was the biggest need so, surprisingly, they’re even finding help with their salary cap issues.
The Cowboys are still looking for running back help since Royce Freeman and Deuce Vaughn may be reportedly on the cut block. This would leave Elliott, Rico Dowdle and Malik Davis to brace for a hard season. Abdullah isn’t making this team playoff contenders but it provides them with some cost-effective help.
Los Angeles Chargers
It shouldn’t surprise anyone if the running game starts lacking this season even under Justin Herbert’s wing. Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins don’t sound like long-term starters for the offense since they’re coming off from injuries. You can’t expect playoff-level play from these two knowing that Austin Ekeler was on the Chargers a year ago. However, the team didn’t have any choice but to cut him to save salary cap.
Carolina Panthers
If the Panthers have plans to trade Miles Sanders before this upcoming season, they could bring Abdullah as a replacement. He’s by no means the same player as Sanders but it gives the team another rotational running back to run with Chubba Hubbard, Jonathon Brooks and Rashaad Penny. They may not necessarily need an extra running back but in this league, there’s never “too much.”
