Former Draft Bust Could Be a Trade Candidate for Ravens

Here is how former draft bust quarterback Trey Lance could be a trade candidate for the Baltimore Ravens this offseason.

Former draft-bust quarterback Trey Lance could be a trade candidate for the Baltimore Ravens this summer. According to a report, the Dallas Cowboys could still benefit from trading their No. 3 quarterback before the season starts. The Baltimore quarterback depth chart is a lackluster behind Lamar Jackson so they could add some reliability to help him. Journeyman Josh Johnson is the current backup which should probably encourage the Ravens to add a new piece to compete for the No. 2 position.

Lance hasn’t been able to take a snap for the Cowboys which is concerning considering he still has many years ahead of him. It didn’t work out in his favor when playing quarterback for the 49ers since Brock Purdy took over as the franchise starter. The North Dakota State wants a starting role but he’ll likely take the backup spot if it means a free ride to the Super Bowl behind two-time MVP, Jackson. Lance could learn something in this system as Jackson isn’t going anywhere as long as he remains healthy and plays at a high level.

However, things can always change in the league and the Cowboys may consider upgrading Lance to the No. 2 position. It’s still unknown what Lance can do as a starter for one full season after his injury start with the 49ers. He never had the chance to return to showcase his skills so this move would probably get him to improve his play and be a potential starter on a different roster after Baltimore. It’s hard to see the Ravens moving on from Jackson unless he underperforms consistently then that would mean the conversations would start swirling in.

They’ll likely retain Lance and trade Rush being that they still need to extend Dak Prescott this offseason.

Other Potential Trade Candidates

Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert is going to be the quarterback of this team for a long time unless Jim Harbaugh wants to build a new foundation. However, things aren’t looking bright for the quarterback since they lost Mike Williams, Keenan Allen and Austin Ekeler in one offseason. They’re making some adjustments for the new offense but it’s a matter of time when Herbert starts to lack. No one should expect the Chargers to put on an MVP performance this season considering the weapons they have.

This could trigger some frustration in the quarterback room which would possibly lead the Chargers to trade for someone like Lance. He isn’t the modern-day solution but it’s another quarterback to keep in the rotation to see how he can excel in this offseason. It’s hard to see much success when you just have Quentin Johnson, Josh Palmer and DJ Chark as replacements.

New Orleans Saints

Derek Carr isn’t going to be around if he doesn’t improve in his 2024 campaign. However, the weapons that the Saints are giving him aren’t working in his favor. Dennis Allen has room for improvement to give the tools of success for their starting quarterback. They’re still in salary cap debt so they may have a better record than what everyone expects this upcoming season so they probably can’t get the top quarterback prospect in 2025.

Kansas City Chiefs

No one is taking Patrick Mahomes’ place for the next decade as long as he stays healthy. However, they don’t have much reliability behind him since their only best backup was Chad Henne but that was years ago. Lance might ride on a one-year contract if he lands with the Chiefs to compete for the No. 2 spot.
