Pop or Flop: Predicting the Impact of Eagles 2024 Additions

Eagles 2024 Additions: With key players leaving the Eagles, they will need their 2024 signings to step in right away and fill major holes.

The Eagles’ 2024 additions in the offseason will play a big role in their success or failure in the upcoming season. While the Eagles have made significant signings, they have also lost a few crucial players this offseason. There are some big shoes to fill, as well as weaknesses that need to be improved. The defensive line will look a little new this year. The Eagles’ secondary will be one of the big question marks coming into the season. The consistency their offense can find in 2024 will also be important. All in all, here’s the baseline of what to expect from the Eagles’ new 2024 additions.

Predicting the Impact of Eagles 2024 Additions

Bryce Huff, Edge

The Eagles signed Bryce Huff early in free agency. Huff, the former pass-rusher from the New York Jets, will have big shoes to fill in replacing Haason Reddick. Reddick was traded to the New York Jets, and it essentially became a one-to-one swap for both teams. However, the Eagles will heavily rely on Huff early and often in the season. With the Jets, Huff was a rotational player, essentially a designated pass-rusher. Last season, he totaled 10 sacks and 10 tackles for loss on limited snaps. The big question for Huff will be whether he can handle being a full-time starter. The Eagles need him, not only for the pass rush but against the run as well. Nonetheless, he’s a talented player with explosiveness on the edge, expect him to reach a few career-highs this season.

Prediction: 13 sacks, 18 TFLs, 1 Forced Fumble

Saquon Barkley, Running back

Possibly the most exciting addition for fans is the signing of former New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley. Every NFL fan knows how talented Barkley is. In terms of size, speed, and ability in the open field, he ticks all the boxes. Many believe he’s been held back for years behind the Giants’ poor offensive line, and lack of offensive options. Well, neither of those two things will be a problem now. The biggest risk with Barkley comes with his injury history. If he can stay healthy, he will be productive and exciting to watch. The big question, however, will be just how much he will be used in the offense. The Eagles’ passing game is very explosive with Jalen Hurts and the receivers. However, Barkley’s talent matches their own and should get a healthy workload throughout the year.

Prediction: 1,450 rushing yards, 350 receiving yards, 12 total touchdowns

Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Safety/Nickel Corner

Gardner-Johnson returning to the Eagles will be another important addition. After a career-best year with the Eagles in 2022, he left in the offseason to play for the Detroit Lions. He suffered a torn pectoral in week two and missed most of the season but returned in week 18 and played in the playoffs. Despite the injury, Gardner-Johnson still showed he can make an impact when he’s on the field. With two interceptions in five total games, as well as 29 tackles, he can do anything you want from the safety or nickel corner positions. In Vic Fangio’s scheme, Gardner-Johnson could see some time as a nickel corner but is more likely to be a traditional safety. Regardless, he fits the Eagles well and will bring tons of energy into the lineup.

Prediction: 77 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 4 interceptions
