The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are urged to trade $60 million playmaker, Chris Godwin this offseason. According to a report, many sources are encouraging the Buccaneers to decide to move on from the veteran or extend him to a new contract. Godwin hasn’t got a long-term extension that keeps him on the roster but there’s still time to do it. However, time may be ticking since he’s entering the final year of a three-year, $60 million deal.

He’s coming off a third consecutive season with 1,000 receiving yards but had a career-low of two touchdowns in 2023. Godwin may be slowing down in production which could be a reason why negotiations are slowing down. One should take into account that the Buccaneers may have to wait until how he can thrive under new offensive coordinator, Liam Coen. He didn’t have the greatest season leading to Dave Canales taking over his duties as head coach for the Panthers.

However, Godwin was spending more time on the outside instead of the team placing him in the slot. Coen may be better off placing him where he feels comfortable to see how he can adjust to this new offense. The Buccaneers would be smart to extend him now rather than play the waiting game. However, Tampa Bay could get something in return if they decide to trade him for a viable draft pick.

The Buccaneers should act now but it’s hard to imagine seeing Mike Evans without his duo. They were able to extend Evans to a new deal while giving more years to Baker Mayfield. The Penn State product may be in a new uniform since anything’s possible in the league. If they want to succeed in the playoffs, they should bring back Godwin on a new contract.

Potential Trade Spots

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs might as well start stacking on some receivers now that Rashee Rice is going to miss some time. However, they were able to retain one of their wideouts, Mecole Hardman but he isn’t any special like what Godwin can provide. He’s likely more of a WR2 but can easily help someone like Marquise Brown since he’ll be the lone leader. The other wideouts in back like Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney don’t have many years as starters on this team eventually when they become a stacked roster when they develop Xavier Worthy.

They may end up constructing Godwin as their reliable slot receiver to replace what Marquez Valdes-Scantling was able to do. He would be better efficiently as a pass-catcher so it’s a plus for the team.

Baltimore Ravens

Surprisingly the Ravens are a great fit that needs a slot threat for Lamar Jackson. They could focus on adding Godwin as the No. 3 receiver while they move Rashod Bateman on the outside. Odell Beckham Jr. was their guy to thrive in that position but he isn’t around anymore. The Ravens would be wise to help Zay Flowers and Mark Andrews focus on the deep threat while Godwin takes care of the slant and play-action plays.

Los Angeles Chargers

Godwin would immediately change this wide receiving corps but the bad news is that they have too many receivers. This shouldn’t matter after a year since most receivers may be cut or traded. However, they need a big name on their roster to replace what Mike Williams and Keenan Allen have been doing to help Justin Herbert thrive. It should give the offense a new regime and firepower back to playoff contention.

New Orleans Saints

Derek Carr isn’t going to thrive with just Chris Olave alone so they need someone like Godwin to trade for. Any receiver that’s a big name like him could fit into this offensive spread. Dennis Allen should think twice about giving Carr a new experience after a disappointing campaign last season.
