The Seattle Seahawks may shockingly trade a former third-round pick receiver, Tyler Lockett this offseason. According to a report, the rumors are heating up after an article suggests the Seahawks should move on from the Pro Bowler to get some draft capital. The team is facing some financial challenges as they are taking a $30 million cap hit for their long-time veteran. Lockett has already proven what he could do on the field but his production has been dwindling as of last season.

His 894 receiving yards were one of Lockett’s fewest since 2017. However, a new beginning is coming for the wideout as Mike Macdonald and Ryann Grubb are stepping in as the new coaches for the offense. The Seahawks may consider trading him away this training camp if they don’t see any improvement in his abilities. However, the organization and Lockett are loyal to each other but how long does that usually last? The new leaders in town could trigger a trade considering Macdonald and Grubb weren’t around as Lockett was.

This 2024 season will mark Lockett’s 10th season with the Seattle Seahawks. The veteran is getting familiar with the new system which could be a clear sign that he’s staying. However, there’s no guarantee that he’ll be a starter come week one. Lockett did make an effort to take a restructured deal to stay with the team but it doesn’t guarantee a roster spot.

The Seahawks are still a decent team but they aren’t Super Bowl material so this is something Lockett may consider. However, the veteran is tired of the rumors circulating his name. It seems like he doesn’t want to go anywhere after he thanks reporters. Moving on would be hard no matter what for both sides but anything’s possible.

He Looks to Bounce Back

Upcoming receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been growing as a player for the Seahawks so they may view him as a fan-favorite. Pete Carroll isn’t around anymore with some new faces on the roster so they favor him over Lockett who’s been a part of the Seahawks the longest. However, they aren’t getting special in return if they decide to trade Lockett. Seattle would garner plenty of attention from teams since there are teams out there that need a receiver.

The Seahawks are probably better off keeping Lockett in their arsenal. The best that the Seahawks could get in return for Lockett is probably a third or fourth-round 2025 pick. It’s the year for Lockett is bounce and regroup in this new offensive system, so if the team views him as a liability then they could cut him loose. However, one shouldn’t forget the type of player he is when he’s at his best.

He’s been able to record four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons from 2019-2022. Don’t expect this trade to happen anytime soon but don’t be surprised if it happens suddenly like the Stefon Diggs trade. Here are some potential trade fits for Lockett.

Potential Trade Fits for Lockett

The Chiefs need a receiver that still has at least six years in the tank while they establish the wideouts they have. Lockett would probably be a solid replacement if Marquise Brown doesn’t work out for the team. He isn’t reliable for vertical passes but the speedster could be fun for Patrick Mahomes. One should take into account the recent memory that the Chiefs haven’t had any luck with their receivers since letting Tyreek Hill.

However, the Ravens look promising with their offense but the only lacking part is their receiver depth. Rashod Bateman is coming back for a few more years but he hasn’t been anything special next to Zay Flowers. The AFC competition isn’t getting any easier so it’s wise to give Lamar Jackson as many weapons as possible. However, the Saints probably have one of the worst receiver rosters in the NFC.

The only promising wideout they probably have is Chris Olave so Dennis Allen must think twice before sending Derek Carr out there. If he wants big results this year then they should trade for someone like Lockett to be a leader in the locker room.
