2,100-yard free agent and former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, Martavis Bryant is expected to have interest from teams after his release. According to a report, the reinstated wideout will soon visit with other teams this offseason and may find a new NFL home. The Cowboys were bringing in the controversial receiver for a chance to reboot his career but never gave him that opportunity. However, the 32-year-old is running out of time so there may not be much left in the tank.
He spent the 2014-2017 campaign with the Steelers, only appearing in 36 games due to various drug-related suspensions. He was able to contribute, notching 126 balls for 1,917 yards and 17 touchdowns before his trade. The Steelers traded him to the Raiders ahead of the 2017 season but were dealing with Bryant’s off-field issues that prevented him from playing. He’s still in redevelopment mode as of late November last year but the Cowboys are deciding to move on to other options.
Dallas is bringing in former Jacksonville Jaguar wide receiver, Zay Jones for a visit. This makes sense as to why the Cowboys are releasing the controversial wideout. If he does sign and play with a team this season, he’ll see his first NFL snaps since the 2018 season. Here are five teams that could be interest in Bryant </p>
5 Teams Who Could Have Interest In Free Agent Martavis Bryant
Kansas City Chiefs
Rashee Rice isn’t helping his off-field issues with another incident that’s finding him in more trouble. This means the Chiefs may be moving on from him and Bryant becomes an available cheap option. The 32-year-old was generating interest from teams before his signing with the Cowboys as a high-risk, low-cost weapon. It wouldn’t be the first time that a Steeler wideout left to join the Chiefs to win a ring.
JuJu Smith-Schuster joined Patrick Mahomes and their red-hot offense to try to win a ring and were successful. It could be the same case for Bryant where the team is in the position to win a third consecutive Super Bowl this season. Bryant would be able to be a quick cheap option while Xavier Worthy and Kadarius Toney establish themselves as the next WR1 and WR2.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Bryant was becoming one of the great receivers with the team before off-field issues overshadowed his on-field success. The Steelers haven’t been able to make a receiver trade happen this offseason after attempting with Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel and D.K. Metcalf. Diontae Johnson moving on for the Panthers shows they need a reliable receiver to be a starter for new quarterbacks, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
It’s a quick option with high risk but it’s better than what they have now.
Baltimore Ravens
One thing that the Ravens want to avoid is Zay Flowers and Mark Andrews taking all of the catches this year. They were able to re-sign Rashod Bateman but his track record of injuries may become an issue midseason. Odell Beckham Jr. was the veteran help for the team but he isn’t there anymore so they may need someone like Bryant as a replacement. Bateman can bounce back from an ugly 2023 season but adding Bryant could provide some relief to every receiver on the corp.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers are bringing about every receiver to try to replace Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. It will not be the same for Justin Herbert who has been seeing a lot of success with those weapons. However, the new regime with Jim Harbaugh shows they will focus on the run game rather than the passing attack. This means they could bring someone like Bryant as a cheap option without spending big-time money.
Harbaugh isn’t going to spend that much so Bryant could be the answer. They need another deep threat that could give Quentin Johnson and Josh Palmer a challenge for their job.
New Orleans Saints
Michael Thomas isn’t coming back so they still need to add a receiver despite drafting one this year. Bub Means isn’t going to develop overnight to help Chris Olave so they need a couple of veteran pieces to bolster the offense. Derek Carr needs a wideout with proven talent since Rashid Shaheed will play a bigger role in 2024. There aren’t a lot of veteran names so that may cause some trouble for the team early this season.
