$19 million free agent and former Buffalo Bill safety Micah Hyde hinting at possible retirement amid rumors of uncertain future. The Bills are already moving on with their offseason workouts while Hyde is on to real life after spending the last seven years in the secondary. However, the team lost a lot of key veterans this offseason before the start of free agency which led to them needing to make salary cap space. This doesn’t mean Hyde is giving up on his outside obligations, hosting an annual charity softball game.

The 33-year-old may be contemplating retirement but the door is open for his return if the opportunity is there. However, he took to Instagram Stories to give an update to talking heads and fans about the upcoming charity event along with his future.

“Bills Mafia, although I’m currently not with the team, I want you all to know how special this is to not only myself but my whole family,” he said. “Over the last three years, our relentless energy has elevated this game to the next level and I’m forever grateful to have your unwavering support while my future is still unknown.”

It sounds like this could be the last time fans could see the fan-favorite safety for a while from speculating on his post. However, the fourth annual charity offers donors willing to pay $1,000 an exclusive meet-and-greet experience with Hyde. There will also be a Home Run Derby competition which will feature Bills quarterback Josh Allen. While this takes place, the speculation will continue for the long-time veteran.

The Door Is Open for His Return

According to the Bills’ General Manager, he is leaving the door open for Micah Hyde to possibly return to the team for one more run. While Jordan Poyer is moving on to sign with the Dolphins following his release, the All-Pro partner could return to Buffalo. However, Hyde was contemplating retirement even after the 2023 season was over due to a history of neck injuries. Speaking to reporters after their elimination from playoff contention, he mentions that he has no idea what his future holds.

“I just have no idea what the future holds right now,” he said. “I’m going to sit down, maybe in a couple weeks or something, and talk to the wife and talk to the family. But we’ll see. I’m in no rush, no rush at all.”

Following his release, the Bills let go of Tre’Davious White while re-signing Taylor Rapp and Mike Edwards. It seems like the team is moving without Hyde, the defensive captain who started 104 games for the Bills, including the playoffs. Hyde’s message implies this could be the end of the road. However, he left the door open for a potential return so here are the teams that make the most sense if he suits up in 2024.

Potential Team Fits for Hyde

Numerous teams in the league need a safety days away before the NFL Draft next week. Luckily, Hyde will be available for these rosters if they call his name. The Kansas City Chiefs are one team that could intrigue his interest. This signing would only happen after the Draft is over. If the Chiefs don’t find their next safety, then expect the Super Bowl champions to look into Hyde.

The trade of L’Jarius Sneed shows that the team needs some star power to be his replacement for the secondary. The Ravens are lacking in their secondary after the release of Geno Stone. They need a replacement to complement Kyle Hamilton and Marcus Williams in providing veteran insurance for the team. Also, providing another veteran alongside Tyrann Mathieu in New Orleans wouldn’t hurt the team.

They have Jordan Howden and Johnathan Abram but the thought of Mathieu and Hyde on the same team could make them one of the best secondaries in the NFC.
