“Nothing Imminent” 59-TD Free Agent May Need To Find Suitors

Here is former Superstar and Baltimore Raven wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. may need suitors after Miami Dolphins not close to contract.
Beckham may need suitors

Miami Dolphins General Manager Chris Grier recently told reporters that there is “nothing imminent” with 59-touchdown free agent and former Baltimore Raven, Odell Beckham Jr. so he may need to find suitors. Despite that, the team is still interested in the Pro Bowler but they’re nowhere near getting a deal done. However, it’s an interesting situation since the Dolphins were the first team this offseason that was close to signing Beckham. There have been reports all offseason circulating him so it’s unclear how interested the Dolphins are.

The only thing that’s stopping both sides from making a deal is the financial vision for a deal. It seems unclear what type of contract Beckham is looking for at this stage of his career. Beckham played just one season with the Ravens, notching a career-high 16.1 yards per reception. However, he only caught 35 passes for 565 yards and three touchdowns.

The Ravens only played Beckham for 50 percent of the snaps so playing time looks like the issue here. However, in 2022, he suffered a torn ACL which forced him out of action for the entire campaign. The Dolphins only have $3.1 million in cap space available so it makes sense that they’re not paying the top dollar for a wideout. Miami’s receiver depth is still strong with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle but they’re looking for their next WR3.

The Dolphins were dealing with cap issues this season and they may have seen what type of deal that Beckham wanted. However, they might be exploring the option of drafting a receiver in this year’s NFL Draft. No team in the league is expecting to draft a low-cost veteran or even pay one a big contract.

He Should Be Able To Generate Interest

This isn’t the last time that Beckham will generate interest. There are still rosters that may need a receiver after this year’s draft. It’s still surprising to see the superstar wideout still available among Michael Thomas, Hunter Renfrow and Tyler Boyd. This probably means their contract value is going down, especially when the Bills shipped off Stefon Diggs to the Texans.

The Miami Dolphins were the closest team to get a Beckham deal done but that seems out of reach. One could speculate that Beckham is probably for the best offer and where he’s guaranteed he won’t be going at this stage. However, there have been rumors circulating about his future retirement plans but the Pro Bowler is continuing his NFL career. Beckham should probably be in the position of his career to ring chase instead of looking for a long-term contract.

It would have shocked the league if he were to pair with electric speedsters of Hill and Waddle but other teams may be a better fit. However, the Dolphins may have to revisit Beckham or find another receiver who could make more sense for their offense. Miami had an excellent WR room but finding a reliable WR3 is their need.

Team Fits for Beckham

The Los Angeles Chargers are one team still looking for a reliable wideout for their franchise quarterback, Justin Herbert. Chargers should consider Beckham and give him the proper starting role to see what he can produce under new Head Coach Jim Harbaugh. This would allow the new era to get an early boost from a veteran before eventually switching to someone younger. Chiefs should probably push hard to get Beckham after the NFL Draft if they don’t get the receiver that they want.

A wide receiver with Kadarius Toney, Marquise Brown and Beckham should be a scary sight for the rest of the AFC. This should buy the Chiefs time while they deal with Rashee Rice’s off-field issues.
