AFC Team May Look to Add Three-Time Pro Bowler

Dolphins may add Beckham

AFC team Miami Dolphins may look to add three-time Pro Bowler and former Baltimore Raven, Odell Beckham Jr. after visiting with the team this week. According to a report, they however aren’t willing to overspend on a contract with this free agency. Beckham left the facility without a deal, so the two sides will have to figure out a price point agreement. They don’t have a lot of cash to overspend on someone like Beckham while having Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

However, the two sides had a great meeting and there’s still a mutual interest despite not reaching an agreement yet. The salary cap for the Dolphins has become an issue at the beginning of the offseason. Miami had to let go of key veterans like Christian Wilkins, Andrew Van Grinkel and Robert Hunt leave as free agents since they were over $38.5 million over the cap. The Dolphins still need to upgrade their No. 3 receiver spot so adding Beckham would obviously answer that issue.

The issue is that Beckham is coming off a disappointing 2023 season campaign with the Ravens. Given his injury track record, it makes sense that the Dolphins don’t want to spend big money on a veteran. He signed a one-year deal with the Ravens last year for $15 million guaranteed after he tore his ACL in 2022. It would be surprising if the Dolphins decide to be trigger-happy and sign Beckham to a blockbuster deal.

Waddle and Hill still had more than 1,000 receiving yards last season so the quality of the receiving corps isn’t the issue here. It’s more quantity in this scenario in case any of their weapons goes down with an injury.

Other Teams Face a Big Decision

Beckham is one of the best available wide receiver free agents this offseason. Any team that gets their hands on him and strikes a deal would change the offense no matter what. This includes the Kansas City Chiefs who may face a big decision in the coming days. After losing Superstar Cornerback, L’Jarius Sneed, they may look to add a veteran playmaker like Beckham to change the team around.

However, many teams shouldn’t feel bad about if they don’t acquire the superstar. Last season, he only notched 35 catches for 565 receiving yards and scoring three touchdowns. The good news for the Chiefs is that Bekcham’s preferred destination is with them. His meeting with the Dolphins could prompt other teams to take action to probably make a move on him.

Although his production dipped in recent years, he remained a viable threat last season with a career-best 16.1 yards per reception. This isn’t the last team that will be interested in his services this offseason. New Orleans Saints will look to add to their receiving corps after releasing Michael Thomas. They signed Cedrick Wilson Jr. this offseason but they need a veteran to complement Chris Olave.

Expectations for Beckham

If the team decides to not move forward with Beckham, there are still available wideouts to complement Waddle and Hill. However, it would probably be wise to let Beckham head somewhere to get more playing time with a contender. The Chiefs and Dolphins are two destinations that won’t give him that but at this point, he may be ring-chasing. He’s still a Super Bowl champion after winning one with the Rams so it’s possible he could sign with the Saints.
