Potential Landing Spots White

Here are three potential landing spots for All-Pro defensive back Tre’Davious White after his release from the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo is cleaning up shop to create some cap space after they released some star players. They’re also letting go of All-Pro Safety Jordan Poyer and restructuring the contract of veteran pass rusher, Von Miller. According to ESPN, the team will save roughly $43 million against the salary cap due to the moves.

The team is designating White as a post-June 1 cut, according to Adam Schefter. However, they will only incur $6.2 million in dead money, but they save $10.2 million. The only implication is that White suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week Four. Many teams who may be interested in him are hoping he can return to full health once the season begins.

It’s been a busy offseason for the Bills, they’re also cutting Mitch Morse, Deonte Harty and Siran Neal while restructuring the contract of Rasul Douglas. White was drafted in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft and became a staple in the Buffalo Bills secondary. He’s been named to Pro Bowls and selected as an All-Pro two times. White will become the newest high-quality free agent on the market amongst others.

He may be cheaper since he hasn’t played a full season since 2019. It won’t be immediate for White to head to a new team, but his name and success he had could intrigue many teams. For the past three seasons, White has missed 29 games due to injuries, but teams may still offer him a lucrative deal. Here are three potential landing spots for Tre’Davious White.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys could potentially use someone like White since he’ll be more of a cheaper option as opposed to other free-agent cornerbacks. It’s likely that Dallas will find someone cheap like White to add to their defensive corps. However, they could likely be interested in Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs from the Seahawks who are cleaning up shop too. They’re more expensive options, so White could be someone to watch if the Cowboys are looking to add to their defensive backfield.

The Cowboys may need someone to complement both Trevon Diggs and Daron Bland. Diggs was injured for most of last season with a torn ACL, leaving the workload to Bland. However, Bland found success in his first season as a starter until some inconsistencies were showing. He was an interception machine, but his inaccuracies were showing in their disappointing playoff loss against Green Bay.

Veteran Cornerback Stephon Gilmore is set to hit the market, so they’ll likely target one either way. White complementing Diggs could bring some relief to Bland to be pushed to the inside.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars have a glaring hole at the cornerback position, so this means they will address the issue this offseason. Jacksonville recently released starter, Darious Williams and their safety Rayshawn Jenkins. The move helps them create $16.5 million in cap space for the team. The move they are making is pushing the Jaguars into the top 10 for cap space.

They’ll be able to afford White, but if they want to go for an expensive option, then they could. Jacksonville’s performance in the second half of the season fell apart after some visible potential in the first. Adding White to help the opposing side of Tyson Campbell could help fill a hole in their secondary.

Baltimore Ravens

This move would be a dream scenario for John Harbaugh and the Ravens defense. White has been stellar when he’s healthy so moving to the Bills’ rival could spark some intrigue for both sides. Once White returns to pre-injury form then he could still be a key asset to the secondary. However, the Ravens would need an opposite to complement Marlon Humphrey.

The Baltimore Ravens adding White after the likes of Ronald Darby and Rock Ya-Sin, leaving for free agency could make sense.
