Philadelphia Eagles Hire Former Dallas Cowboys Coach as OC

Here is the Philadelphia Eagles hiring former Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to become their next OC.
Kellen Moore

The Philadelphia Eagles are borrowing from a rival to build their offense around him. The Eagles have hired former Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore. He coached a year during his campaign with the Chargers which saw head coach Brandon Staley fired that same season. Before that, he was with the Eagles’ NFC East enemy, Dallas since 2018.

Moore joined Dallas as the QB coach that year before getting elevated to offensive coordinator. This was short-lived until Dallas eventually let him go, having Mike McCarthy take over the play-calling. Moore spent four years including three seasons as the play-caller, but there wasn’t much production for Dak Prescott and the offense. However, it wasn’t all bad since he still put an illustrious career stat during his time with the Cowboys.

During his tenure as OC, Dallas finished twice first in the NFL in yards, and they equaled that effort in scoring in 2021. Despite his fallout, he’s still considered one of the league’s most respected offensive minds. He now gets to work behind the Eagles quarterback. Jalen Hurts to help Head Coach Nick Sirianni drive the offense. Sirianni now has a new set of coordinators after recently hiring defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio.

Kellen Moore will have the chance to rediscover himself with the electricity of Philadelphia’s offense under Hurts.

A Chance to Reignite the Old Bitter Rivalry

The Eagles finished with the seventh-most points in the league, but that faltered after going 1-6 in the stretch, including a blowout Wild-Card loss against the Buccaneers. This opened the idea of bringing Moore to open some old wounds. It could be bad or good news for the Dallas Cowboys after they released him after four seasons. It seemingly seems as though Moore could be on a revenge campaign as he will face the Cowboys twice every year he’s in Philadelphia.

Dallas Cowboys head coach did blast the former offensive coordinator after failing to light up the scoreboard which eventually hurt the defense. It was probably pointing the finger at Moore after he made his exit. Moore became the latest scapegoat that year when results weren’t met in the postseason. Now, he’ll be creating plays for the Eagles offense to go against Dan Quinn’s defense, if he’s still with the team.

Several Cowboys fans are laughing at this move from Philadelphia hiring Moore, but it might mean trouble for Dallas. He may still remember the Cowboys playbook and the times when he was put to blame. This is something to keep in mind, but many Cowboys insiders still respect Moore as an offensive coordinator. Moore had everything clicking Dallas’ offense until they were lacking offensive weapons and Prescott’s underperformance.

However, Philadelphia’s offense will be healthy and they have legit weapons to help ease Moore’s campaign with the team when he arrives.

It might all come full circle for Moore

Moore had a great debut season despite Prescott being lost for the season following the year in 2020. When Prescott returned, the Cowboys’ offense took off. CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper were the main weapons at the time lighting up opponents and putting up yards. This all fell apart due to his underperformance against better teams and in the postseason.

Stats are just stats, and the Cowboys are just looking for wins. It’s crunch time for Dallas while Philadelphia could be doing some experimenting to see how well Moore fits. Moore has plenty of new toys to play with in Philadelphia. D’Andre Swift, Kenneth Gainwell, A.J. Brown and Dallas Goedert are the new weapons that Moore can experiment.

It may pay off for the new offensive coordinator, but Cowboys fans are hoping it’s not a “Full Circle” scenario for them.
