This Veteran Has Helped Improve the Browns Offense

The Browns have found a new recipe for success under veteran quarterback Joe Flacco with the playoffs and Superbowl being the end goal.

Quarterback Joe Flacco Has Provided Consistent Play Under Center

This season the Browns have had four quarterbacks start at least two games, with four games left on the season. Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco is the newest member of the quarterback room and has provided a unique spark for the brown and orange offense.

The 38-year-old quarterback used to be a hated rival for Browns fans. Quarterback Joe Flacco was taken 18th overall by the Baltimore Ravens, and spent his first 11 years in Baltimore. He played in 10 games every season and played all 16 games in 10 out of 11 years.

Quarterback Joe Flacco’s Impressive Numbers

Counting his two starts for the Browns, Flacco has thrown for 42,885 passing yards in his career. A true pocket passer especially at this point in his impressive career. He has a career 61.5 percent completion percentage and has thrown 237 career touchdowns and 149 interceptions.

His consistent play led the Ravens to some impressive feats, and this is seen through his numbers. In 2016, quarterback Joe Flacco threw for a career-high 4,317 passing yards and added touchdowns. He also has had seasons with 25, 22, 21, and 20 passing touchdowns. Not known as a runner, he still has 16 career rushing touchdowns and 861 rushing yards.

After 11 seasons with the Ravens, he spent some time in 2019 with the Denver Broncos. He played in eight games throwing just six touchdowns with five interceptions. He then saw a move that landed him with the struggling New York Jets. Quarterback Joe Flacco spent 2020-2022 with the Jets, which included an unfathomable comeback win over the Browns.

He only played in 12 games though, and could very well end up playing six or more games with the Browns this season. Flacco has impressed in his two starts, keeping Cleveland on a trajectory toward the postseason.

Browns Offense Under Flacco

After being added from the practice squad shortly before the game, quarterback Joe Flacco made his Browns debut on December 3rd against the Los Angeles Rams. He showed flashes of old Flacco, throwing for 254 yards and two touchdowns. There were some hiccups though, with a 52.3 percent completion percentage and questionable interception throw.

The good outweighed the bad as Flacco had been spending his months enjoying the life of a former professional quarterback. Flacco mentioned he felt like a 10-year-old kid playing football again, and this showed in his recent outing. He earned his first win with the orange and brown at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He completed 26 out of 45 passes for 311 passing yards and three touchdowns with one interception. With a quarterback rating of 92, it was clear Flacco made plays only a composed player at the position would make. He commanded the offense and earned an impressive win over a very solid team.

Quarterback Joe Flacco has the most career passing yards and touchdowns for any quarterback who has never made a Pro Bowl. Flacco also led the Ravens to a Superbowl in 2012 and was named the Superbowl MVP.

There has been credibility towards Flacco by his current teammates and he is gonna remain under center as the Browns finish out the season. If he shows flashes of his old self like he has the past two weeks, he will only gain comfortability and confidence, leading to a Browns playoff appearance and potential playoff run.
