As expected, the Miami Dolphins beat the Washington Commanders, handily, 45-15, but may have lost key players in the process. The Dolphins were hitting on all cylinders as they have the majority of this season. Tua Tagovailoa was 18/24 for 280 yards including two touchdown tosses to Tyreek Hill. Hill had five receptions for 157 yards to go along with those two touchdowns. De’ Von Achane led the team in rushing (17 carries for 73 yards) while also finding the end zone, twice. Not to be outdone, Raheem Mostert added a touchdown on 11 carries for 43 yards. Andrew Van Ginkel stepped up in the absence of Jaelan Phillips, by recording a pick-six of Washington quarterback, Sam Howell. Emmanuel Ogbah, who is also seeing more playing time, due to Phillips’ injury also contributed a sack. The lopsided victory was not without its costs, however.
Dolphins Lose Key Players; Beat Commanders
Jerome Baker Injury
Jerome Baker seemed to have suffered a serious leg injury in the first half of the game. Teammate Brandon Jones raced to prevent the Commanders Curtis Samuel from scoring a touchdown. In the process, Jones ended up sliding into Baker and rolling up on Baker’s leg. There is no prognosis as of this writing for Baker’s injury, though he has said via social media, he will be back sooner than you (fans) think. Baker may not be the only key Dolphins player who may miss extended time.
Terron Armstead…Again
At this point in the season, Terron Armstead has already been on IR and has left a game on more than one occasion. Against the Commanders, Armstead, once again, had to leave the game. Much like Baker’s injury, Armstead’s also occurred in the second quarter. After a play in which Miami running back Raheem Mostert scored from a yard out, Armstead appeared to grab at his leg. Armstead did not return for the second half of the game and no other information as far as the severity of the injury, is yet available.
Takeaway
The Miami Dolphins, as expected, soundly defeated the Washington Commanders 45-15. Tyreek Hill had a pair of touchdown catches from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Hill now has 1,481 yards on the season as he continues to pursue 2,000 receiving yards this season. Andrew Van Ginkel and Emmanuel Ogbah played great in place of the injured Jaelan Phillips. The win did not come without some casualties to a couple of key Dolphins players, on both sides of the ball. Linebacker Jerome Baker appeared to suffer a serious leg injury after a friendly-fire collision with teammate Brandon Jones. Similarly, offensive tackle Terron Armstead also left the game just before the half. Armstead also appeared to suffer an injury to his leg. Dolphins fans while optimistic, must be conscious of the fact that football is a physical game by nature. With that in mind, each week is a chance for the Dolphins to keep winning. Conversely, it is also an opportunity to lose some important players that have contributed to this winning season. Both scenarios, for better or worse, played out on Sunday in the nation’s capital.
