Nothing beats the new smell of a brand-new automobile. Stores even sell the replicated version of air fresheners to copy the aroma. Dealers do their due diligence to prep the car for potential buyers. The fumes hit the nose immediately. Fresh new clean appearance is a part of the process. And this year, the New Orleans Saints have the luxury of getting a new Derek Carr.
Of course, this Carr has been used. But it’s new to the city of New Orleans. Fans are mixed as to whether or not this Carr will provide enjoyable weekend getaways providing joy and cheer. Or will this Carr become a certified lemon. Either way, the new car smell is temporary.
New Orleans Saints Versus Tennessee Titans: Derek Carr Set to Debut
Possessor of the Keys
Derek Carr is the driver of the black and gold. While this role is critical — the responsibility is not the greatest. Win or lose, Carr is likely to address the media to explain what or what did not happen. All in all, Carr is the face of the Saints like it or not.
Simply put, the front office makes the decisions on how and what route to take during a season. This season’s draft by the end of the season gives a preliminary progress report on the offseason as well as the NFL Draft. Coaches and the quarterback will work together to come up with a game plan every week.
Running Backs and Wide Receivers
Onto the running backs who often get overlooked nowadays. This is where the rubber meets the road. The Saints best bring the lumber against the Titans this Sunday. Winning the run game may be the deciding factor.
Still, the Saints are known for the flash through the air. The receivers are the group qualified to change a game in a second. They are the speed. The way the car takes those tight curves. Also, wide receivers are what the defense is looking at — the exterior. If everything is running to perfection — cruise control can be set. Drew Brees was the ultimate smooth operator. Obviously, having Michael Thomas back healthy changes everything for the season.
Offensive Line Engine is the Core
The offense as a whole runs through who is winning the line of scrimmage. In Week 1 anything can happen. If history is an indicator, the Titans play a physical style, running the ball with King Derrick Henry. In addition, the backfield is improved by adding former Tulane running back Tyjae Spears. Early on one team is going to control that line. More importantly, coming to the fourth quarter — whatever team wins this battle likely wins the game. And for the Saints, nothing makes Carr a success more than an offensive line pushing the pile back. Keeping Carr protected is a must too. Finally it’s time for kickoff! Let’s start off the season right.
