The Denver Broncos formally introduced their new alternate helmets on Tuesday, and you might need sunglasses at first sight. The new ‘Snowcapped’ design helmet features the classical “D” that Denver has rocked with older uniforms on a flat white background. The majestic snow-crowned peaks have been an iconic backdrop to the team’s home games for decades. They will now take center stage in a bold, fire-and-ice-inspired design.

The Broncos will be wearing the “Snowcapped” design in two of their games, pairing the helmets with their current color rush uniform. Denver has been teasing this alternate helmet for multiple days, and the fan and player response appears worth the wait.
Denver Introduces Alternate ‘Snowcapped’ Helmets
The NFL’s long-standing (and unappreciated) helmet rule ceased to exist in 2021, allowing NFL teams to don alternate helmets with their throwback and color rush uniforms. Previously, NFL teams could only wear one helmet per season with sticker changes.
Safe to say, the change was welcomed with open arms by NFL fans and players alike.
The first domino to fall in the 2023 offseason was Philadelphia. The team will wear the ‘Kelly Green’ uniforms as a throwback to the old Kelly Green the Eagles wore in the past. Then Detroit, Tennessee, Indianapolis, Cleaveland and Seattle all released alternate helmets.
It might have taken some time, but the Denver Domino has finally fallen. No other AFC West team has rolled out any alternate helmets, making Denver the only team in the division with a third helmet.
The Player and Fan Reactions
The “Snowcapped” look is much brighter than any other helmet the team has worn since the team’s creation. Navy blue and orange helmets have been the standard for Denver. This alternate design has the league and many former Broncos excited. NFL Hall of Fame Safety Steve Atwater was fired up on Twitter about the team’s new polar helmets. Former WR Brandon Stokely was also excited about the new lid that the Broncos will wear.
What about Russell Wilson, though? Where does he stand on all of this?
The team’s star Quarterback has never gotten to wear a white helmet such as the “Snowcapped” in his entire career. Now, Wilson will get his turn with the polar-ice cap. A new helmet could make it easier for him to spot his receivers in a division full of helmets that aren’t exactly bright white. Wilson has yet to formally comment on the Denver Broncos Snowcapped Helmets.
Denver rolling out their new alternate helmets brought excitement to fans and players all across the NFL, and will certainly bring some flair to the West. The fire-and-ice design complimented with the talented 2023 Broncos roster will put the league on notice sooner than later.
