Getting better than the 2022 season for the Philadelphia Eagles is going to be hard. Last year, the Eagles started the season 14-1, ultimately finishing the regular season 14-3 and holding the number one seed in the NFC. The Eagles handled the New York Giants quite easily in the Divisional round of the playoffs. They would go on to dominate the NFC Championship game vs the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately, the team’s dream run would come to an end, as they would lose to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 57. The Eagles will look to replicate their performance from last season and build upon it. Hoping to capture the second Lombardi Trophy in franchise history. They will have to do it against the hardest strength of schedule in the NFL. Here is the official Philadelphia Eagles Record Prediction.
Philadelphia Eagles Record Prediction: Game by Game Analysis
Week 1: At Patriots
The Eagles will kick off the 2023 NFL season with a tough match-up on the road. There are reports that the New England Patriots are planning to celebrate Tom Brady at this game. Ironic, seeing that Brady both won and lost a Super Bowl vs the Eagles. The Eagles will have to contend against Bill Belichick, with an entire offseason to prepare. Additionally, the Patriots have improved their offense, adding wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. The Eagles will be fired up to go against Smith-Schuster after all the trash-talking he has done since the Super Bowl. Ultimately, Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense will be too much for Mac Jones and the Patriots to keep up with.
Eagles Win, 1-0 Record
Week 2: Vs Vikings (Thursday Night Football)
Getting a little Deja vu with this match-up. Last season the Eagles home opener was vs the Minnesota Vikings, in Week 2, on a primetime stage. The Eagles routed the Vikings that night 24-7. Don’t expect this one to be as easy. The Vikings will bring back a similar offense to last season. Justin Jefferson and Dalvin Cook (if he is still on the roster) are two of the most explosive players in the league. Going against Jefferson is always hard. Especially since Darius Slay shut him down last season, Jefferson will be amped for this match-up. The game will come down to which Kirk Cousins shows up. Is this a normal primetime Kirk Cousins outing? If so the Eagles win handily. If Kirk comes ready to play, the Eagles defense should still be able to get enough stops to pull out a close victory.
Eagles Win, 2-0 Record
Week 3: At Buccaneers (Monday Night Football)
The 2023 Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in a limbo stage. Tom Brady is officially retired, meaning the Buccaneers quarterback is either Baker Mayfield or Kyle Trask. That leaves a lot to be desired from the most important position in sports. However, the team is still coming off of three straight trips to the playoffs and has talent. Under Nick Sirianni, the Eagles have handled their business against teams who are inferior. The Eagles defensive line will look to feast on a weaker Buccaneers offensive line. The Eagles defense shows up big in this game and gets a convincing win.
Eagles Win, 3-0 Record
Week 4: Vs Commanders
The Washington Commanders are still searching for their answer at quarterback. The team will likely start second-year player Sam Howell. Howell showed some fight last season gaining a win over the Dallas Cowboys late in the season. He has seemingly impressed in Washington, so maybe they have something there. The Commanders play the Eagles tough, being the first team to hand the 2022 Eagles a loss. However, the Eagles high powered offense will be too much for Howell to keep up with. This is a game early in the season where DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown look to dominate.
Eagles Win, 4-0 Record
Week 5: At Rams
It is never an easy feat traveling from the east coast to battle a west coast team. It is hard to get a read on the Los Angeles Rams. Just two seasons ago, they were the team holding the Lombardi Trophy. Last season, not so much, as they finished an ugly 5-12. Injuries derailed their season. At one point they lost their three best players in Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and Aaron Donald. Expect a bit of a bounce-back season from the Rams this year. In the offseason, the Rams traded three-time first-team All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Miami Dolphins. As of now, the Rams have nothing of note in their secondary. This is another game where the Eagles offensive line can keep Aaron Donald in check. The passing attack should have a field day.
Eagles Win, 5-0 Record
Week 6: At Jets
The New York Jets have added future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. This is maybe the last piece to make them a true contender in the AFC. The Jets have an exciting young team with stud players up and down that roster. On offense they have electric running back Breece Hall, a smooth route runner in Garrett Wilson, and a veteran who has played with Rodgers before in Allen Lazard. On defense, they have a stud defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, and maybe the best cornerback in the league after just one season in Sauce Gardner. Aaron Rodgers makes this Jets team a very dangerous team to face, especially on the road. The Eagles will take their first loss of the 2023 season here vs the Jets. If this happens, this would be the Eagles first-ever loss to the Jets.
Eagles Lose, 5-1 Record
Week 7: Vs Dolphins
After the Eagles get their first loss of the season, it does not get any easier. The Eagles will have to deal with the speedy Miami Dolphins. It is hard enough to go against Tyreek Hill, but when you pair him with Jaylen Waddle, it is almost unfair. The Dolphins will also have a tough test on their hands going against Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith. This game should be exciting and has the makings of a shoot-out.
Eagles Lose, 5-2 Record
Week 8: At Commanders
After two straight losses, the Eagles look to get back on track against their NFC East rival. This will be the second match-up vs the Commanders this season for the Eagles. This time, the Eagles will travel to Washington. Road games vs divisional rivals are never easy, especially facing them for a second time. Ultimately, the result is no different and the Eagles get back to their winning ways.
Eagles Win, 6-2 Record
Week 9 Vs Cowboys
Dallas Week! The Eagles always get up to face their main rival at home. The Dallas Cowboys have had an up-and-down offseason thus far. Adding Stephon Gilmore is a big boost to their secondary. However, they lost Ezekiel Elliot who despite not being the great player he once was, is excellent short-yardage and goal-line back. Tony Pollard’s status to begin the year is up in the air but he will likely be back by week nine making the match-up harder for the Eagles. The Eagles know the importance of divisional games especially at home.
Eagles Win, 7-2 Record
Week 10: BYE
Week 11: At Chiefs
Super Bowl Rematch! This is the game that the Eagles have been waiting all year for. The Eagles get the chance to get revenge for their Super Bowl loss. It will not be easy, the Kansas City Chiefs bring back the MVP, Super Bowl MVP, and the best quarterback in the league Patrick Mahomes. The Eagles new defensive coordinator Sean Desai will have a chance to prove his worth. Hopefully, he has an improvement over their poor game plan vs the Chiefs from last season. The Eagles are ready for this one, and they get their revenge.
Eagles Win, 8-2 Record
Week 12: Vs Bills
After getting a huge win on the road vs the Chiefs, the Eagles go home and play Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. This game has all the making of a letdown game for the Eagles. After a huge road win, they go home and play an exceptionally talented team, who has hopes of making the Super Bowl. The Eagles will come out sluggish also knowing who their opponent is next week. The Bills will be ready to show they are a true contender.
Eagles Lose, 8-3 Record
Week 13 Vs 49ers
Big game after big game. This time, NFC Championship rematch. The San Francisco 49ers will be ready for this one. They have talked and talked and you guessed it, talked. The 49ers get a chance to make up for their misfortune last season. Hopefully, they have a healthy quarterback so there are no excuses when they get the same result. Even with a healthy quarterback, their best options are Trey Lance or Brock Purdy. The Eagles defense will still have a challenge in facing Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle. Despite that, it is hard to pick the 49ers while the most important position continues to be a problem.
Eagles Win, 9-3 Record
Week 14: At Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys will be looking to get their revenge from the game earlier in the season. This time they will have home field advantage. The Cowboys will need a big game from all of their stars in this one. Ceedee Lamb has had great games against the Eagles and that steak should continue. Dak Prescott comes up big, leading the Cowboys to a massive divisional win in a very close game.
Eagles Lose, 9-4 Record
Week 15: At Seahawks
Yet another tough trip out west. This time the Eagles will play the Seattle Seahawks. A massively improved Geno Smith has his pick of weapons to deal it to. An imposing D.K. Metcalf, a veteran deep threat in Tyler Lockett, Exciting running back Kenneth Walker, and rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Seattle is historically one of the toughest places to play in the NFL. The Eagles are no stranger to high-pressure tough environments coming off of last season. However, it might be too much to ask of them to win on two different trips out west.
Eagles Lose, 9-5 Record
Week 16: Vs Giants (Christmas)
Tis the season to get the Giants. Just what the doctor ordered after two straight losses. The Giants improved immensely in the 2022 season. Surprising everyone and making it to the NFC playoffs. Coach Brian Daboll will continue to get the best out of his players. The Giants have added an exciting rookie wide receiver in Jalin Hyatt. With key additions, the Giants offense should continue to improve. Despite that, The Eagles defense will be too much for Daniel Jones and continue to have success against stellar running back Saquon Barkley.
Eagles Win, 10-5 Record
Week 17: Vs Cardinals
Can you have a revenge game against a coach? If you are an Eagles fan, you want revenge. The Eagles will host the Arizona Cardinals and new head coach Jonathan Gannon. Gannon was the Eagles defensive coordinator last season. Gannon was much maligned by the Eagles for his lack of aggressiveness and inability to make adjustments. Despite that, Gannon has had a lot of success, leading the 2022 Eagles to a second-overall defense. The 2022 Eagles also and the third most sacks of all time. The revenge factor comes from the poor game plan in the Super Bowl. The defense seemed unprepared and didn’t make good if any, adjustments. In his defense, he was going against Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. However, the Chiefs scored on every second-half possession helping them beat the Eagles in the Super Bowl.
The Eagles on paper should have every advantage vs the Cardinals. The one thing the Cardinals could have going for them is the timing of this match-up. By week 17 Kyler Murray will likely be back from his torn ACL. Despite having their quarterback for this game, it doesn’t help in the final result.
Eagles Win, 11-5 Record
Week 18: At Giants
One more game, and another divisional opponent. This time on the road vs the New York Giants. This will be the Eagles second trip to New York this season having played the Jets on the road. There is a chance this game means nothing in terms of seeding. That always makes predicting the final week of the season an almost impossible task. There is also a chance this game means everything for seeding. The Eagles are the better team on paper and will have proved that throughout the season. They finish the year strong heading into the playoffs.
Eagles Win, 12-5 Record
