Chicago Bears 2023 NFL Draft Review: Getting Fields Help
The Best: Darnell Wright
Wright is a mammoth of a lineman. He has violent hands at the point of attack and can drop the anchor when getting bull rushed. He has had impressive tape against the best pass rushing prospect in this draft as well as showing a knack for enjoying putting defenders in the ground. Fields will have a true body guard in Wright whether he lines up on the left or right side of the line. Wright will be a huge asset moving forward and can neutralize the oppositions rushers.
The Head Scratcher: Tyler Scott
Tyler Scott is an extremely talented player, however he enters a crowded receiver room in Chicago. While he is not going to touch Moore, Claypool, or Mooney he faces an uphill battle against Velus Jones Jr. and other depth pieces. He may get buried on the depth chart as he doesn’t offer anything uniquely different.
The Surprise: Tyrique Stevenson
Stevenson will enter a low pressure situation as both starting corner roles are already filled. While the Bears did not have an immediate need at the position they took the best value on the board. Eberfluss can use him in the Kenny Moore role that he had in Indianapolis.
The Steal: Roschon Johnson
Roschon Johnson served as the Robin role to Bijan Robinsons batman. In Chicago he will be behind Foreman and Herbert which is nothing new for him and he will make the most of the opportunities that present themselves to him. His physical style of play and high football IQ will lead to an increased snap share later in the season. Getting him in the later rounds will prove extremely beneficial.
Will Turn Heads in Camp: Gervon Dexter
Gervon Dexter is a beast of a player out of Florida. He may not be the most consistent player but he has shown flashes of being an absolute game wrecker multiple times during every single one of his games. As Eberfluss coaches him up look for him to have a few impressive reps against a re-tooled offensive line in camp.
The Rest
Zach Pickens and Travis Bell help the front trenches of this defense which will make the back seven look even better. Bell may struggle with length and technique but with coaching could improve. Pickens lives in the backfield and will make an impact making tackles for a loss consistently.
Noah Sewell, Terrell Smith, and Kendall Williamson add to an already strong back seven of this defense. Sewell is an old-fashioned mike backer who just ten years ago would have went a lot sooner in the draft. His coverage skills are what made him slip but his ability in the run game will make him an asset. Smith has proven he can be an asset through blitzing. Williamson is a hard hitting safety that brings a style of play to this defense that is contagious.
