2023 NFL Draft: Peter Skoronski Scouting Report

Peter Skoronski enters the 2023 NFL Draft as one of the top offensive line prospects available. He is a master technician with fantastic movement in space. He also comes from NFL lineage and is the grandson of Green Bay Packers team captain, Bob Skoronski. The former Wildcat standout was thrust into a starting role when Rashawn Slater sat out the 2020 season. Skoronski performed very well that season, starting all nine games and earning second-team All-Big Ten Conference honors. In 2021, he started all 12 games at left tackle and continued to hone his technique, especially in pass protection. Skoronksi finished his collegiate career as the league’s top offensive lineman and a first-team all-conference selection in 2022, again starting all 12 contests at the blindside.

Strengths

  • Explosive kick-slide on diagonal sets;
  • Attacks first with protective hands;
  • Excellent footwork and hand placement to counter twists;
  • Arches back with fluid hips to improve anchor;
  • Comes off the snap with a low pad level to aid in explosiveness on contact;
  • Quickly races out of stance for effective reach-block success;
  • Wide balance and stance throughout the rep;
  • Clear understanding of positioning and angles at the point of attack;
  • Superb leg drive on double teams;
  • Powerful run blocker.

Weaknesses

  • Late puncher from outside angles;
  • Needs to vary pass sets and hand attacks to become less predictable;
  • Often gets beat by long-arm rushers and pushed into the pocket;
  • Average adjustment to second-level movements;
  • Can be beaten by side-stepping defender at the point of attack.

Bottom Line on Peter Skoronski

The bottom line on Skoronski is he possesses many of the traits NFL teams covet in an offensive lineman. He is a very fundamentally sound player with excellent balance that allows him to recover if he’s initially beaten. In the run game, he’s effective moving vertically and displacing defenders at the second level.  He has also shown glimpses of strong play in a zone-running concept that speaks to his overall versatility. His 32.25-inch arm length may give some teams pause to take him as a true OT, and the interior move to guard seems inevitable. This will allow Skoronski’s traits to adequately shine and gives him the best chance at long-term success.

Regardless of where Skoronski lines up, he still projects as one of the top-tier, OL prospects in this draft class. He can be an immediate plug-and-play starter on day one and could quickly ascend to a Pro Bowl caliber performer.
