2023 NFL Draft: Tim Demorat Scouting Report

Tim Demorat began his college career at Fordham in 2018, starting eight games for the Rams and playing in a total of 10 that season. Demorat was 148/264 for 1,633 yards, 11 touchdowns, and six interceptions. In his second season in the Bronx, Demorat was 232/393 for 2,674 yards, throwing 20 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, in 12 appearances for the Rams.

In the Covid-19, shortened 2020 season, in which there were only three games, Demorat was 93/129, for 1,049 yards while throwing almost as many touchdowns (five), as interceptions (three). During his fourth year with the Rams, Demorat was 234/400, throwing for a marveling 31 touchdowns, against only nine, interceptions, while only missing one of the Rams twelve games, that season. In his final season in the Empire State, Demorat went-off…in a good way. He was 326/499, for an astonishing 4,891 yards, with a mind-boggling 56 touchdowns, against a minuscule 10 interceptions, while playing in all 12 games, that season.

Strengths

  • Durable (Played in 48/51 games in five seasons);
  • Naturally athletic;
  • Leader – will call audibles at the line if necessary;
  • Size and build of a prototypical NFL quarterback;
  • Ability to pick up yards with his feet, on busted pass plays.

Weaknesses

  • Biomechanics become off-kilter if he has to leave the pocket;
  • Holds the ball too long;
  • Comes from a smaller conference (Patriot League Conference);
  • Does not like throwing over the middle;
  • Accuracy/Consistent ball placement is an issue.

NFL Comparison: A lighter Drew Lock

Teams With Need At Position: Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Rams, Washington Commanders, Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Projection: Undrafted Free Agent

Bottom Line on Tim Demorat

Demorat’s numbers are no doubt, eye-opening, to say the least. With that said, what many NFL scouts will look at is the strength of conference and the teams Demorat played against. While the Patriot League Conference is a Division I conference, it is still a lower-tier Division I conference, which includes schools that were once athletic powerhouses, but then chose to shift their focus mainly to academics (Holy Cross).

There is nothing that Demorat can do about that. His numbers are impressive, regardless. A team that needs depth at quarterback will give Demorat an opportunity. That opportunity will likely come via Demorat signing as an undrafted free agent, rather than a pick, in the 2023 NFL Draft. Once he is given an opportunity, teams will see if he has the capability to become an NFL quarterback.

If Demorat shows he does have the capability, he will likely be put on a team’s practice squad and will attempt to progress from there. He definitely has the size and build for an NFL quarterback, and his durability is also an asset that teams may be intrigued by. The biggest questions will be, will Demorat be able to compete against the most talented defensive players he likely has ever played against, and be able to replicate the types of numbers he did while playing in one of (if not the) lowest-ranked conferences in Division I football?
