Keenum was traded to the Bills after Mitchell Trubisky signed as a free agent with the Pittsburg Steelers in a deal that sent the Browns a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The veteran quarterback would appear in only two games this past season in late appearances as a closer against the Tennessee Titans and the Steelers. He attempted seven passes, completing two of them for eight total yards.

Signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2012, Keenum would finish his rookie year with 1,760 yards, nine touchdowns, and six interceptions in eight games with a passer rating of 78.2. Keenum would be waived by the Texans prior to the 2014 season eventually landing on the St. Louis Rams practice squad before re-signing with the Texans later that season.

Playing in the NFL for 10 years, Keenum has been a part of seven franchises, appearing in 78 games and starting 64 of them. With a career record of 29-35, Keenum had his best season as a starter in 2017 with the Minnesota Vikings. He went 11-3 helping the Vikings win a playoff game. As a backup for Sam Bradford, Keenum would get his start after the quarterback suffered a season-ending injury. He was able to set career-high numbers in starts, passing yards, completions, and touchdowns, leading his team to a last-second win over the New Orleans Saints in the game known as the Minneapolis Miracle.

Following his time in Minnesota, Keenum would play for the Denver Broncos, Washington, and the Browns. Considered to be a journeyman quarterback, the veteran has been able to fit into many different franchises since his rookie year as a backup and a starter.
