Six-year offensive tackle, Germain Ifedi, has signed a new contract with the Atlanta Falcons. Ifedi was selected in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. He has spent the last two seasons with the Chicago Bears as a fringe starter.

Germain Ifedi, Atlanta Falcons, Agree to Contract
The days of Ifedi being considered a lock as a starter going into the season are no more. This is considering they ever even existed in the first place. Not to be confused, his 2020 season was not an utter disaster. However, the time has passed for him to reach the first-round potential he was believed to once have. Outside of the rare exception, players are typically who they are by this point in your career. Ifedi is only someone a coach wants to see starting for his team if absolutely necessary. This means either due to injury or severe cap restrictions that have prevented from a better player filling the position. Ifedi played 1000+ snaps during the 2021 NFL season. During this time, he surrendered two sacks and committed five penalties.
Ifedi initially entered the league in 2016 as the 31st overall selection of the draft. Drafted by Seattle, Ifedi has never lived up to the billing of a first-round draft pick. He was arguably one of the worst starting offensive tackles in his rookie season. As a rookie, Ifedi committed nine penalties and surrendered five sacks on the season. He also failed to crack the 1000 snap marker; a bad introduction to the NFL on all fronts.
Things did not really get better for Ifedi the following season either. In 2017, he finally managed to crack 1000+ snaps but struggled everywhere else. His run-blocking was abysmal, and he committed the most penalties in the league with 19. For the second straight season, Ifedi once again had a strong case as the worst starting offensive tackle in the league.
