Rashaad Penny Signs Deal With Seattle Seahawks
In his fourth season in the league in 2021, Penny put together one of his best seasons to date and could look for an even larger role out of the backfield in 2022. Last year, Penny appeared in 10 games and started in six of those contests for the Seahawks. During that span, he finished with career-best marks in carries (119), rushing yards (749) and rushing touchdowns (six). Penny also added six catches for 48 yards out of the backfield.
Prior to the 2021 campaign, Penny played a relatively minor role with Seattle, appearing in a total of 27 games in the first three seasons of his career.
In 2020, Penny took the field in just three games, concluding that season with 11 rush attempts for 34 yards and no touchdowns. Before that season, Penny played in 10 games for Seattle and wrapped up his sophomore season with 65 carries for 370 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He also added eight catches for 83 yards and one touchdown in 2019.
As a rookie, Penny put together his best and healthiest season prior to the 2021 campaign, playing in 14 games during the regular season which remains the most of any season in his career to this point. In that 2018 season, the then 22-year-old running back finished with 85 rushes for 419 yards and two touchdowns, adding nine catches for 75 yards in the passing game. Those totals were career-best marks prior to the season Penny put together in 2021 in an expanded role.
Penny, who turned just 26 years old in early February, still has plenty left to offer in his playing career and has shown steady improvement every year in an expanded role. In 2022, his fifth year in the NFL, the running back will look to continue to take the next step yet again.
