Quinton Jefferson Signs Contract With Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks drafted Quinton Jefferson from Maryland on day three of the 2016 NFL Draft. He was the 147th overall selection (round five) and the second defensive tackle Seattle selected in the 2016 draft. His first season saw only one tackle in three games played, largely due to ending on Injured Reserve in late October.
Seattle waived Jefferson following the season’s end. The Los Angeles rams added Jefferson following the final pre-season game in 2017, reviving his chance to play in the NFL. Yet, his tenure lasted only 10 days before the Rams assigned him to the practice squad. Seattle called again, and acquired his services a month later. Yet, his second year was not much different with six games, seven tackles, and a sack.
In 2018, however, Jefferson focused and found a niche on defense, playing on the left end in Pete Carroll’s often interchangeable defensive fronts. He landed three sacks and 25 tackles while playing 56 percent of snaps. He earned further playing time in 2019, registering 3.5 sacks, 26 tackles, and three passes defended 64 percent of defensive snaps.
Jefferson, a mere practice squad player two years before, found his way to a sustainable NFL career. His future would start in Buffalo, under a two-year $13.5 million contract. Unfortunately for Jefferson, he played far below subpar, starting only four games. The Bills cut him before the 2021 season began as part of salary cap casualties.
The Raiders called next, and in 2021, Jefferson played in and started all 17 games. He recorded a career-high in sacks (4.5), tackles (47), and forced fumbles (two) while playing on 59 percent of defensive snaps.
