Mostert only played in one game in 2021, after injuring his knee in the season opener. The injury turned out worse than originally thought, and forced Mostert to sit out for the rest of the year. In 2020 Mostert actually requested a trade from the 49ers as he was unhappy with his role in the offense. Mostert would eventually restructure his contract and stay for one more season. However, injuries once again would force Mostert to miss eight games in 2020. He finished the year with 521 yards on the ground and two touchdowns.
In 2019 Mostert signed a three year extension with the 49ers, and it was also the best season of his career. He finished the 2019 season with over 770 rushing yards and 10 total touchdowns and helped the 49ers reach the Super Bowl. In the NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers, Mostert would play the game of his life. He finished with 29 carries and 220 yards, and four touchdowns. The 220 yards was the second most rushing yards in NFL postseason history, and his four touchdowns was tied for second most in postseason history as well. In the Super Bowl, Mostert had 12 carries for just 58 yards in the loss.
Mostert played his college ball at Purdue from 2011-2014 as mostly a punt/kick return man. In his freshman season, he only carried the ball 16 times for 108 yards, averaging almost seven yards a carry. He would continue as a specialist and as a backup running back. In his senior season though, had a bigger role in the offense, running it 93 times for 529 yards and three touchdowns. During his time at Purdue, Mostert finished with 759 yards on 136 attempts and six touchdowns. During kickoff returns, he had 2,289 yards on 88 returns and two touchdowns, averaging around 26 yards per return.
