Ben Jones, Tennessee Titans, Agree to Contract
This off-season is a big-time for offensive linemen as there are talented and experienced linemen that have helped create some of the most prolific offenses in the NFL. 32-year old Ben Jones looks to bring his reliability to be a leader on and off the field in the 2022 NFL season.
Jones was selected in the fourth round (99th overall pick) in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans out of the University of Georgia. Sports Illustrated ranks him as the second-best center in the Draft that year. In his first two seasons with Houston, Jones played in 32 games while starting in 11 of them. In his third season with Houston, his role increased as he played and started in all 16 games that season, playing 95% of the offensive snaps. In his last season with Houston in 2016, Jones was moved to his natural position at center and played 100% of the offensive snaps.
After four seasons at Houston, Jones signed as a free agent to the Texans AFC South Divisional rivalry in the Tennessee Titans for a four-year; $17.5 million deal. Jones played 100% of the Titans’ offensive plays in the games he played for Tennessee. He only missed one game in his six seasons with Tennessee.
This past season, Jones finished an overall grade of 77.8 by Pro Football Focus as he only allowed one sack and committed five penalties. Pro Football Focus also had Jones as the second-best center entering free agency behind Tampa Bay’s center Ryan Jensen.
Jones is one of the most efficient pass-protecting centers in the NFL as well as zone run-blocker. He is also versatile and possesses the durability to play in any offensive system in the NFL.
