Ryan worked for the Baltimore Ravens last season as their inside linebackers coach. The length and salary of the deal are unknown as of this time. Ryan has worked with new defensive coordinator Patrick Graham before in the past. Both individuals were with the New England Patriots from 2001 to 2003.
Las Vegas Raiders Have Hired Rob Ryan Hired as Senior Defensive Assistant
Rob Ryan is a name Raiders fans should be very familiar with. He was the defensive coordinator for the franchise from 2004 until 2008. Unfortunately, the franchise was still in the midst of its cycle as a bottom-tier franchise. The franchise has since restored some of its luster in large part due to their playoff appearance this season. However, Ryan is not to be completely absolved of blame. During his four years in Oakland, the defense was always ranked near the back half of the league in points allowed. The highlight of Ryan’s stint in Oakland came in 2006 when the Raiders defense ranked third in yards per game.

This is a smart hire by Las Vegas. Rob Ryan has an extensive amount of coaching experience in the NFL. His hiring as Senior Defensive Assistant also shows how dedicated Mark Davis is to making Las Vegas a perennial playoff contender. Most people inaccurately believe that Las Vegas is due for yet another rebuild. This could not be further from the truth though. The new coaching staff, led by Josh McDaniels, is in a prime position to continue building upon a solid foundation of young players.
