Trill Williams 2021 NFL Draft Profile

Atrilleon “Trill” Williams, was a three-star recruit out of Archbishop Stepinac High School, in New York. During his senior of high school, he earned first team USA Today honors, while recording five interceptions and 19 pass deflections. While he had a relatively successful high school career, Williams athletic testing dragged him down as a recruit. As a forgotten prospect, Williams committed to a local school, the Syracuse Orange.

Coming to Syracuse with little hype surrounding him, Williams quickly changed that. Williams recorded 31 tackles and two interceptions as a freshman, starting four games for the Orange. In 2019, as a sophomore, he showed his versatility by earning a role as the primary slot corner. Playing most of his snaps in the slot, Williams recorded 31 tackles, three forced fumbles, and one interception. When 2020 rolled around, Williams was poised for a major role in a stacked secondary, but injuries derailed his season. Throughout his collegiate career, the one thing that stood-out most was Williams versatility to play all over the field.

Williams draft stock has been climbing, due to his versatility and improved athletic testing. Since leaving high school, Williams athletic profile has increased steadily and now it is one of his strengths come draft day. At one point at Syracuse he recorded a 4.34 40 time, with a 40” vertical leap, all while standing tall at 6’2”. His improved athleticism combined with his game tape is a good combination for cornerback needy teams. Williams is a position and scheme versatile corner, who will excel in almost any situation.

Bottom Line on Trill Williams

Williams is involved in a relatively top-heavy cornerback class, meaning he will be good value in the mid-rounds. The top corners in this class are pretty much set, but as far as the second-tier group goes, Williams name will be near the top. The versatility and athletic upside he offers will provide value to teams as a role-player as early as his rookie season. Eventually, Williams projects as a starter, given the right situation.

The positives and upside surrounding Williams definitely outweigh the negatives, and as a whole he should turn into a good NFL player. He has the rare blend of size and speed that can’t be taught, however there are some techniques issues that could still use some work. Ideally, Williams will land with a team who does not need an immediate starter and can ease him into playing time.
