Jamin Davis 2021 NFL Draft Profile
After an up and down career at Kentucky, Jamin Davis is entering the 2021 NFL Draft at his peak. With limited playing time and exposure in his first two collegiate seasons, Davis took full advantage of an expanded roll in 2020. He recorded 102 tackles, 1.5 sacks and three interceptions in a standout season. Even with the impressive junior season, Davis was still considered a day three pick at the beginning of the draft process. After an impressive pro-day, Davis has skyrocketed up draft boards and he now may end up getting drafted in the first round. In his latest mock draft, NFL analyst Mel Kiper Jr. has Davis being drafted with the 14th overall pick.
Davis is entering the NFL a bit unpolished, however that isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes, the most valuable assets come draft time are the ones that can be molded. Davis offers potential as a weakside linebacker, with high upside in coverage. Davis is a rare breed of length, athleticism and instincts that is always a coveted asset in a pass first league. While he still has major strides to take in coverage, the potential of Davis has the NFL excited about him as a prospect. With only one season as a starter in college, the team that drafts Davis will do based largely on his potential and hope their staff can coach him up to his peak.
Strengths
- Solid instincts;
- Would excel as a weakside linebacker at the next level;
- Physical traits help him in zone defense against the pass;
- Size and length at the linebacker position;
- Good short-area quickness.
Weaknesses
- Produced for just one college season;
- Plays slower than his 40 time suggests, usually from second guessing his angle;
- Could improve his physicality in the run game;
- Missed assignments pop on tape too regularly;
- Relies on athleticism to escape positional mistakes, and that won’t cut it at the next level.

Bottom Line on Jamin Davis
Jamin Davis brings an intriguing blend of athleticism and potential growth to the table. He has some flaws that pop out on tape in the run game and missed assignments. However, he looks the part of a potential starting linebacker in the NFL. In an underwhelming linebacker class, Davis has the potential to be one of the top three guys at the position off the board and the buzz around him continues to increase as the NFL draft approaches. Even though he is an unrefined product, if the correct NFL team drafts him and their coaches work with him, Davis should be a very decent professional football player. He has all the traits that cannot be taugh, which makes him a prize for any linebacker needy team.
