Jordan Jenkins, Houston Texans, Agree to Contract
After five seasons in the league, all of them with the New York Jets, edge rusher/outside linebacker Jordan Jenkins is coming around as an efficient playmaker. The Jets drafted Jenkins in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft (83rd overall pick) from Georgia. Although he started 11 of the 14 games played in his rookie season, he wasn’t highly efficient as a playmaker as he accounted for 41 total tackles, 23 solo tackles, three quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks, and two tackles for loss. The following season, Jenkins accounted for 49 total tackles, 32 solo tackles, nine quarterback hits, five tackles for loss, and three sacks.
His productivity on the field stepped up in his third season. He accounted for 35 total tackles, 15 quarterback hits, six tackles for loss, and seven sacks. Jenkins’ best performance that season was when he accounted for five total tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss, and two quarterback hits in the 13-6 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
His productivity as a run-defender increased within the past two seasons at a 71 grade by Pro Football Focus. In the 2019 season, Jenkins had his best season in the league. He accounted for 32 total tackles, 13 quarterback hits, nine tackles for loss, eight sacks, and two forced fumbles. On April 23rd, 2020, Jenkins re-signed a one-year contract with the Jets. This helped the defense tremendously with linebacker C.J. Mosely opting out of the 2020-2021 NFL season due to the impact of COVID-19. This past season, Jenkins accounted for 32 total tackles, six quarterback hits, three tackles for loss, and two sacks. Jenkins was not as impactful on the edge and in the second level as the Jets needed him to be.
