NFL veteran offensive tackle Trent Williams signed a six-year, $138.06 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers. The eight-time Pro Bowl left tackle has spent the majority of his career with the Washington Football Team before being sent to the San Francisco 49ers in 2020.

After being acquired by the 49ers prior to the start of the season, Trent Williams made for an excellent replacement for longtime left tackle Joe Staley. Williams picked off right where he left off, earning the eighth Pro Bowl nod of his career. Williams made 14 starts, being the most since the 2015 season. This being especially impressive given he did not play at all in 2019.

The former 2010 fourth overall pick has taken quite the journey to get to where he is now. Williams is a 6-5 and 320lbs Oklahoma product who earned his first Pro Bowl bid in 2012 and never looked back. Since 2012, Williams made every single Pro Bowl, establishing himself amongst the team’s best blindside blockers. Then, in 2019, Williams sat out the season over more than just the contract he was on. A cancerous growth was discovered years ago though he was told it was not serious. This became a major issue when he eventually went on to visit doctors apart from the team who told him it was life-threatening. Following this revelation,  Williams determined his time in Washington was up. Thus, leading to his demand to be cut or traded from the team.

This upcoming season, Williams will be 33-years-old, and he has not started a full season since 2013. That should not stop Williams though from remaining one of the best tackles in the game. When on the field, he proved to still be the player he once was in 2020, earning the highest grade of any tackle in the NFL per PFF and his own highest since 2016. Williams will look to build off this campaign and continue to be arguably the best offensive tackle in the league.
