Alex Mack, San Francisco 49ers, Agree to Contract
Alex Mack played 14 games in the 2020 season as the center for the Atlanta Falcons. Before he missed the final two games of the season with a concussion, Mack had played in 90 consecutive starts. After being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2009 Mack went on to sign a five-year, $45 million dollar contract with the Atlanta Falcons on March 9th, 2016. In his first year with Atlanta, he played as a center and helped guide his team all the way to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, he didn’t earn a Super Bowl ring as his team fell to the New England Patriots in overtime.
In December 2017 he earned a fifth Pro Bowl appearance and followed that up a year later with his sixth Pro Bowl selection.
Prior to playing with the Atlanta Falcons, Alex Mack played seven years with the Cleveland Browns. During his first season, he played every game on the offensive line. Through this season he helped to provide Jerome Harrison with three consecutive 100-yard rushing games. He was selected to the all-rookie team as the center after going the season only allowing one sack and committing one penalty.
Mack started every game in the 2010 season and was named to the 2011 Pro Bowl roster. Alex Mack showed his toughness during the 2011 season as he played through appendicitis and then had surgery in his bye week before returning the very next week. In 2014 Mack broke his fibula and was forced to miss the remainder of the season. Prior to that, he hadn’t missed any snaps whatsoever.
Alex Mack is a tough competitor and despite getting older he is still capable of bolstering an offensive line. The knowledge that Mack has gained through his 12 years of playing will help any offensive performance.
