NFL cornerback Mark Fields is no longer a free agent after the San Francisco 49ers claimed his contract. This news comes after the Houston Texans parted ways with the defensive back. Fields, a former undrafted free agent, spent the 2020 season with the Houston Texans but has also been a part of the Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings organizations.

Fields was born on October 10, 1996, in Cornelius, North Carolina. Fields is the son of former NFL linebacker Mark Anthony Fields. Mark Fields Sr. played for New Orleans Saints, St. Louis Rams, and Carolina Panthers. The 5’10, 181 pound Fields signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on April 27th after going undrafted in the 2019 draft. The Minnesota Vikings acquired Fields from the Chiefs for a seventh-round pick in the 2021 draft. The Vikings waived Fields and signed him to a reserve contract. The Texans claimed Fields off waivers from the Vikings on December 17th, 2020. The Texans waived Fields on March 2nd, 2020, making him a free agent.
During the 2020-21 season in four games, Fields completed two tackles. Fields suffered a punctured lung in a week eight game against the Green Bay Packers. During the 2019-20 season Fields competed in one game.
Fields played college football at Clemson University for the Clemson Tigers. Clemson won the College Football National Playoff Championship in 2016 and 2018. In 2018, Fields completed six solos and one assisted tackle in seven games. Fields also defended five passes. In 2017, Fields completed 12 solo and three assisted tackles in five games played. Fields also defended two passes. In 2016, Fields completed 13 solo tackles and one assisted tackle in 11 games. Fields had one interception for a touchdown of 42 yards while also defending four passes. In 2015, Fields completed four solo tackles and one assisted tackle in four games played.
Fields attended William A. Hough high school in Cornelius, North Carolina.
