Greg Olsen Announces Retirement

Greg Olsen has announced his retirement from the NFL after 14 seasons, the final one having been spent with the Seattle Seahawks.

Longtime NFL veteran tight end Greg Olsen has announced his retirement from the NFL after 14 seasons. Olsen spent the 2020 season with the Seattle Seahawks. He also played at different points of his career for the Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears.

Greg Olsen Retires

For the 2020 season, Olsen signed a one year deal with the Seattle Seahawks worth seven million dollars. During the regular season, the 35-year-old tight end played 11 games and had one touchdown in 24 receptions with 239 receiving yards. Olsen suffered a ruptured plantar fascia injury again during Week 11; however, he was activated off injured reserve in time for the playoff game vs. the Los Angeles Rams. In that playoff game, Olsen was not targeted nor had any yardage running.

In 2018, Olsen signed a two-year extension with the Carolina Panthers worth $17.1 million dollars. During the 2018 season, Olsen played nine games with four touchdowns in 27 receptions with 291 receiving yards. On December 2nd, Olsen ruptured the plantar fascia in his right foot leading to him missing the remainder of the season. Olsen did not play in the playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys. In 2019, Olsen played 14 games with two touchdowns in 52 receptions with 597 receiving yards. On December 1st, Olsen suffered a concussion leading him to miss two games. After spending nine seasons with Carolina, the Panthers released Olsen on February 2nd.

Before the beginning of the 2015 season, Olsen signed a three-year extension with the Panthers worth $22.5 million. During this season, Olsen played 16 games with seven touchdowns in 77 receptions with 1104 receiving yards. Olsen was chosen for his second Pro Bowl appearance this year. On December 13th, Olsen suffered a knee strain but only missed the 2nd half against the Atlanta Falcons. In the Playoffs, Olsen had one touchdown in 16 receptions with 231 receiving yards. The Panthers would go on to lose Super Bowl 50 to the Denver Broncos 24-10. In the 2016-2017 seasons combined, Olsen would play 23 games and have four touchdowns in 157 receptions with 1,264 receiving yards. The Carolina Panthers would miss the 2016 NFL playoffs. In the 2017 playoffs, Olsen had one touchdown in eight receptions with 107 yards receiving.
