Doug Marrone Fired by Jaguars

This is not a surprise to many but the Jacksonville Jaguars fired head coach Doug Marrone after a 28-14 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, according to Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport. The Jaguars finished the season with a disappointing 1-15 record. This is now three straight losing seasons after appearing in the AFC championship during the 2017-2018 season. Marrone had a 23-43 record during his five years in Jacksonville. Marrone had just one winning season and one division title during his tenure with the team. The Jaguars will now be looking for a new head coach and a new general manager. According to Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars have former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer as their top candidate for the job.

The Jaguars will have the number one overall pick in the draft this year. Most believe they will take Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with that pick. However, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields should not be ruled out for that pick. The Jaguars have a good young core to build around on offense with standout rookie running back James Robinson and wide receiver D.J. Chark. The Jaguars also have a good defense to build around with C.J. Henderson and K’Lavon Chaisson. The team will have more than 100 million dollars in cap space  according to Adam Schefter.  The season may have been disappointing for Jaguars fans but the future is bright with their high number of draft picks. They will also look to get the head coach and general manager for years to come, to pair with whichever quarterback they decide to draft first overall.
