The NFL trade deadline is approaching on Tuesday, November 3rd, and the New York Giants have assets to sell. They have already moved edge rusher Markus Golden in a trade to Arizona in exchange for a 2021 sixth round pick. Golden was going to be a free agent at the end of the season, so the 1-6 Giants decided to gain an asset for their future. Knowing that this season is already a lost one, there will likely be more moves of the same nature by the G-men. Here are a few of their players that could be in high demand ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.
New York Giants Trade Deadline Preview
TE Evan Engram
Giants fans are not happy with Evan Engram after he dropped a pass last week that would have sprung the Giants into the heart of the race for the NFC East. It was a play that sums up his entire career really. Since he was drafted in the first round in 2017, his athleticism and speed have been evident. He is a mismatch in coverage against most every linebacker or safety but struggles with catching the football. Still, Engram’s vast potential is why teams will call about him before Tuesday. If the Giants are ready to move on from him, there are definitely teams with significant interest.
DB Logan Ryan
Logan Ryan was signed just days before the season to add a veteran presence in a secondary that is very young. Through seven games, he has been that and more. Ryan has already racked up 44 tackles, 5 passes defended, a forced fumble, and a sack. He would be a great addition to a team that needs to add a defensive piece to make a run down the stretch. For the Giants, the move makes sense as he was only signed to a one year deal. Much like the Markus Golden trade, New York could add a future asset instead of keeping him for the end of the season.
WR Golden Tate
Veteran wide receiver Golden Tate has had an up and down season thus far, catching 20 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown. The 32-year-old could be a more effective contributor on a competitive offense that is in need of a slot receiver. The issue for teams that are interested in Tate is the salary cap hit that he would bring. A new team would need to absorb $19.2 million over his remaining two years of his contract. The good news for them though, is that only the remaining $4.7 million due this season is guaranteed.
RG Kevin Zeitler
Kevin Zeitler is 30, and has hit the point in his career where his ability is declining. He likely won’t be the same player when the Giants offense is ready to be competitive. That being said, he can still play right now. For a team that is in need of a guard to patch up their offensive line, Zeitler is likely one of the best on the market. The Giants offensive line is already weak. So trading away the best player on it doesn’t sound like a very good idea for the development of their second year quarterback, Daniel Jones. It would, however, allow rookies Shane Lemieux and Matt Peart to get more in game experience. The deal really depends on how bad a team needs him. It will take a solid offer for the Giants to move on from their big right guard.
