With training camp underway and the preseason fast approaching, Last Word on Pro Football is analyzing the schedules of all 32 NFL teams. Each team’s 16-game slate will be split into its most difficult (1-8) and easiest games (9-16). For this article, the Miami Dolphins easiest games of 2020 will be discussed.
Dolphins Most Difficult Games of 2020
Miami Dolphins Easiest Games of 2020
9. Week 15: vs New England Patriots
I am not sure what it is about this matchup, but the Dolphins always play the New England Patriots extremely tough in Miami. The signing of Cam Newton does not really move the needle much, as the Patriots are still devoid of weapons on offense. Even though their defense is still arguably one of the best in the league, you have to score points to win in this league.
10. Week 8: vs Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams look like they could end up in football purgatory for a good minute. What I mean by that is they are no longer good enough to reach the Super Bowl, but nowhere near bad enough to end up with a top 10 draft pick. Their once dominant offensive line is deteriorating at a rapid pace, which is unfortunate as their offense is mostly built around running the football to set up the play-action passing game. This will be a very winnable game for the Dolphins.
11. Week 7: vs Los Angeles Chargers
The AFC West is shaping up to be one of the best divisions in the entire league. I could see a scenario in which the worst team in that division still ends up with a record close to .500. With that being said, I believe the Los Angeles Chargers will be that team. There is a very real possibility that Tyrod Taylor is still the starting quarterback of the Chargers at this point, so that factor could make this game all that much more manageable.
12. Week 12: at New York Jets
If neither team is riddled by injuries at this point in the season, then this could turn out to be a sneaky good game. There is a possibility that both teams could be in the midst of a playoff push, so this certainly will not just be some random throw-away game. Crazy to see these two teams play each other twice in the span of three weeks. If Tua Tagovailoa is not the starter by now, a Dolphins loss here would likely be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
13. Week 6: at Denver Broncos
Everyone seems to be high on the Denver Broncos entering this season. Well, everyone but myself. Drew Lock is still an unknown commodity, and the recent hiring of Pat Shurmur is as uninspiring as anything. Shurmur is notorious for being an extremely vanilla play-caller, so the offense of the Broncos will likely not be as explosive as they are projected to be.
14. Week 10: vs New York Jets
Despite the New York Jets having what appears to be a good draft on paper, the organization is constantly at odds with their top players, Jamal Adams specifically. Adam Gase also seems like he is lost at times, on the sidelines, and does very little to inspire faith within the team’s own fanbase.
15. Week 13: vs Cincinnati Bengals
Although the Cincinnati Bengals got their franchise quarterback in Joe Burrow, they are still knee-deep in the midst of a full-scale rebuild. The Dolphins may be as well, but they are certainly much further along in the process. I fully expect Tua Tagovailoa to be the starting quarterback by this point in the season.
16. Week 3: at Jacksonville Jaguars
Even with this being an away game, this is still the least difficult among the Miami Dolphins easiest games. The Jacksonville Jaguars are in full rebuild mode. Whether they are willing to publicly commit to said rebuild or not is another story though. I doubt Tua Tagovailoa is starting by this point in the season, but it should not matter, nonetheless. Journeyman quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick, should have no issues handling this team.
