Mike Iupati Signs Deal With Seattle Seahawks
Mike Iupati spent the 2019 NFL season with the Seahawks playing in 16 games and starting 15 of them. He was a strength on the Seattle line and saw 1,015 snaps which were good for a 92% snap share. From 2015-2018 Iupati was a fixture at left guard in Arizona. His last two seasons on the Cardinals were plagued with injury, but his first two were stellar. In 2015 Iupati earned second team All-Pro honors in addition to a Pro Bowl nod. That marked his fourth straight Pro Bowl season and his second All-Pro honor. With the first coming in 2012 when he received a first team All-Pro selection as a member of the 49ers.
Drafted 17th overall in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, Iupati started all 16 games as a rookie en route to earning 2010 NFL All-Rookie honors. He followed his rookie year by starting all 16 games in 2011 and 2012 and anchored a run first 49ers team that were perennial NFC and Super Bowl contenders. In seven of his 10 NFL seasons, Iupati has started at least 13 games.
Mike Iupati was born in American Samoa and attended the University of Idaho. In 2006 he saw limited action in a backup role but then started all 12 games at left guard in 2007. Despite off-season shoulder surgery in 2008, Iupati played in 10 games and started in eight of them. He was a team captain in 2009, in addition to being on the Outland Trophy and Rotary Lombardi watch lists.
